These surveys and conclusions drawen from them are Positive proof, that there are white lies, dammed lies, and Statictics. The reason "belevers" are healther, has to be some "Davine" gift from God, it can't just be that many relegions, are against mutli sex partners (NO STDS) against drinking(no kidney, or accident problems) against recreational drugs (similar to drinking), also anyone having kids will tell you they "LOVE" the morning, and like to bang on Mommy and Daddys door at 7am, on the weekends, so as not to be zombies Mommy and Daddy are "trained" by the kiddies to go to bed early, unlike there former Bohemian friends, who are out clubbing it up to 4am, and since as any economist will tell you to be "Wealthly" never take on anything that eats (that includes kiddies), that included with the large "VIG" many religions demand, has the perverse outcome as to force, "families" to eat home cooked food which is far more nutricious and cheaper, then eating out even at Mcdonald's for a family of 4-5. As far as being happier, I don't know, after several rounds of kids vomitting, wetting thier beds, shitting all over the place, screaming and slamming doors, ANY sort of peace and tranqility seems like a gift from God. Think about this, women are pretty vain, take a good looking women, with a HOT body, and nice prestine car, look inside, see the high end cell phone, expensive sunglasses, the newest CD's and radio,Nice clothes,and bra and panties by Victoria, see same women after she has "Squeezed out three or four rug rats", look at her carefully now, Tits are definatly showing signs of wear, the Prestine car looks like a wreck, inside you can detect the delisious scent of stale piss and vomit, in the matted carpets and stained seats, the old cheerios, and french fries are fighting it out for domination on the floors, she has traded in her mini skirt for a pair of old sweatpants, with the croch slowly wearing through, Victoria wont take her calls anymore, and no longer can her former Channel #5, nose, even detect the smell of a pile of dogshit under her seat.But she is happier than ever in her life. Go figure?

Why does that article have to be so goddamn long? They could've just said that stress kills people, and that religion is yet another way to relieve stress. Not a big fan of Occam's razor, I presume.

I actually tried to say pretty much the same thing but with paragraphs and less ridiculous bias, and gave up halfway through. There's no disputing reviewed statistics, but the authour jumps to some silly conclusions about the reasons. There are just as many chain-smoking, heart-attack-having, god-fearing rapists on the brink of ending it all.

Paraphrasing Freud, "Religion is an infantile wish projection and an illusion." IOW, children are happier than adults. DUH.

What? Why would that happen?
I find it damn unlikely, and if true, equally surprising that religious people, who made up the general population back then if I'm not mistaken, wasnt pissing their pants in fear of the prospect that there might actually not be a God after all. The kick-start you speak of was likely made by the scientifically inclined people, yes?
I imagine that with the diversity of belief (religiously or otherwise) we have today, if the media revealed to the masses that the one constant anchor point they and their governments have to rely on for answers and explanations about the world had been proven fundamentally mistaken, there would be mass hysteria.
I think the main reason this might happen today as opposed to then, is because we have media. The world much smaller, and to a much larger degree dependent upon science in peoples everyday lives. It wouldn't be a gradual revelation like back then. It would be an instant shock. People of today see very little difference between scientific fact and everyday logic, IMO, so what would happen if they all of a sudden began questioning their own sense of logic? It would have a profound effect on peoples lives, and cause no small amount of fear too.
@RBJ & SubEff:
Do I sense some insecurity here? Seeing as you have Science and thereby the majority of the human race behind you, one would think you had enough backup that you wouldn't have to resort to ridiculing me to gain the upper hand. And don't give me any "ur so friggin st00pid, n00b, that I cant help it". There is a reason you bothered posting the stuff you did, and it can only be to discredit me and my line of argumentation further. The question is, why would someone on the majority's side need to do that if they didn't feel threatened?

Nobody has said "Religion is the opiate of the masses" yet?
Shame on you, comchat. Shame on you. I thought you were better than this.

Hahahaha, no.
What the fuck, you mean like if gravity suddenly stopped working? This makes no sense. We might suddenly discover we're mistaken about how exactly gravity works, but how would that affect the average person on the street who you assume would be freaking out.
Seriously, you have no idea what you are talking about.
