Taormina, yes! That's the place. Went there and Mount Etna. Needed to go to the toilet almost the entire trip and every bus ride was excruciating (too much info, I'm aware). It was forty frigging degrees plus and a bottle of water costed more than the shirt off my back.
That said, I still found time to grope an angel statue in a park overlooking a nice stretch of coast.
I wish I could attach some pics.

Nearly booked a holiday to Taormina last week, it got to our shortlist but lost out to Murder Captial of the World Jamaica.
Looks fantastic but we decided it was a little too quiet and there wasn't quite enough to do for a whole week, the options seemed to be: Ancient Temple, Etna and Sitting in the Sun. And given my complexion, two of those sounded suspiciously like I would catch fire.

The beer is a bit shit there, but the wine is fantabulous.
I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.

My wife and I are making a trip to my homeland (my father's father is from Sicily) this March. I'm very excited as the only place I've been out of the US is Mexico. We will be staying in Cefalu and Taormina and we'll be in Sicily a total of 7 days. My wife has lots planned, I'll be mostly interested in the food but I'd love to hear of any experiences in Sicily. Have you ever been? Tell us about it.
:weird: I'm Italian, and I've never been under L'Aquila...
