You know, as someone who doesn't play guitar, I noticed that from the first time I ever listened to the Beatles for myself in earnest. I really thought McCartney's bass lines stood out by themselves compared to the usual bass. It is more a counterpoint in its own way than the usuall bum...ba...bum backup of most bass players.

I must have misunderstood someone. I thought they told me there were 89 tracks. 40 is kind of chinzy.
On Conan, Danny Harrison suggested expert for people who knew what they were doing.
45 on the disc, 31 or so (eventually) in the Online Store. Having said that, unlike some of the previous Guitar Hero games the vast majority of the 45 are songs that I'd like to play.
PS I don't know what I'm doing, so I'm saving Expert for my second run-through!

When VH1 or MTV was showing Rock Band clips and framing them like real Beatles videos the other day, I vomited a little bit in my mouth.

Question for the audiophiles about the remasters' special packs:
So, what's the deal with the mono version? (yes, besides the "as-it-was-originally-recorded" reason), why more expensive?
:)

I don't know why this thread isn't in GenGaming, but whatever...

Reminds me of a news clip I saw yesterday about Kurt Cobain in Guitar Hero 5. Courtney Love is apparently flipping out that you can actually play
as Kurt in the game -- he's not just a backdrop character -- and let him play non-Nirvana songs. (And iirc it was the thought of him playing Beatles songs that disgusted her.)
She apparently didn't sign up for that when she gave permission on behalf of the estate, but it makes me wonder just what she thought game avatars are for. They're not in the business of having dignity to begin with. She's lucky they didn't make a chibi version a la wii.

Oh god no, it was Bon Jovi that freaked out Courtney Love and Dave Grohl.
Kurt was actually a huge Beatles fan, and I remember reading once that Norwegian Wood was his favorite song of all time. And they're two separate games - Beatles Rock Band vs Guitar Hero 5 - so sadly, playing Helter Skelter as Kurt just isn't possible.

Because they know the completists will really want to buy that one, so they charge a little more.
Less cynically, there are a few things - like the original stereo mixes of
Help! and
Rubber Soul - which are only in the mono box. Yes, I know it's confusing that there's some stereo stuff in the mono box. The stereo versions of those two albums available elsewhere are George Martin's (the amazing producer not the lazy author) remixes for the crappy 1987 CD releases. Not that those are terrible or anything, they're just different.
I THINK anyway. It's confusing stuff.
Those remasters that I've heard sound great. If you happen to have original UK vinyls of these then don't bother, but they improve on the 1987 CDs a LOT.
Sometimes remastering fucks up and just over-compresses everything to make it loud and muddy. Sometimes they add a bit of clarity and space. Some up the volume and lose a little of the dynamics but for the benefit of clarity. Whether you're gonna prefer mono or stereo is personal preference really (there's not so much 'space' with mono, obviously - but it can hit fucking hard.) Both are done really well - no over-compression, plenty of new clarity ("Paperback Writer" has a break-beat? Yowser.) Turns out these guys had a rhythm section and Ringo was hitting drums rather than paper plates all along.
It's pretty much The Beatles sounding better on CD than they ever have, so welp.

You see, now that gets me excited about it.:thumb:

So that pretty means I'll be buying, again, the whole set....
*Grumbles*
Oh well...I am a Beatle fan (and yes, I like Elvis too...;)).
