Check out the URU Live forum's (
http://www.urulive.com/forums/faq.php?mode=bbcode#11) spoiler tag. I think it would be a good way for advanced members to post large quotes, sidescrollers and spoilerific images with a clean conscience.
Sound like a plan?

I don't really like spoiler tags that rely on JavaScript. What do you do if someone is browsing without JavaScript? Do you show the spoilers, in which case they are not hidden, or do you simply not show them, in which case they miss out?

Personally, and I have no idea why this should be so, that kind of spoiler tag set up has always seemed a little... um... low-rent, I guess would be the best phrase for it.
I have neither explanation nor justification for this opinion, it's just something I've always felt. It's all kinda lumped in there with animated gifs, "Under Construction" graphics, and hit counters for some reason.
Plus the JavaScript angle makes it all a little less than universal, which is a Bad Thing from our perspective obv.

I'd say link to them. Put a link in the post with something like showthread.php?p=1557728
&spoil=true#post1557728 to show all spoiler content in the thread or post with the given ID.

Anyone with NoScript installed in firefox could potentially be exposed to life-threatening spoilers unless they think to enable scripts.
Mortal Monkey on 15/2/2007 at 06:10
Do you really have to get a plugin to disable all the scripts in Firefox? That'd be rather amusing.
Anyway, in case I wasn't making myself clear: I did not suggest we replace our current spoiler tags with this, far from it. But if you have images enabled and Javascript disabled, you might indeed become victim to an image spoiler once in a blue moon. Unless you follow my suggestion to change the PHP script a little, ofcourse.
And even if this new tag becomes popular as a spoiler replacement, you could always throw in some of the old spoiler tags by default and have the Javascript remove them.

.
What do you mean? NoScript is great; at any given time I'm blocking doubleclick, atdmt, tribalfusion, etc. It doesn't disable all scripts period, it disables the scripts you tell it to.
David on 15/2/2007 at 07:09
NoScript is a Firefox extension that lets you whitelist sites to use JavaScript.
This spoiler technique just doesn't do anything for me. It'd be an awful lot of work for no real gain.

So a bit like Explorer's "Ask" option then, except a lot less annoying I'd wager. Good to know.
And how is it a lot of work? I don't know a lot about this forum software, so I'd appreciate it if you'd enlighten me.
