Yes it was the third attempt I made, by simply using the birdcall before any other thing.
After waiting a while I decided to go to the door where you enter the mansion, and suddenly met Basso and Jenivere escaping without any help, I still wonder how they managed to run past all those guards.
Thief is full of surprises...

hmm maybe since you werent watching them, they were far away and the AI didnt simulate thier hostile status properly or somehting... or maybe they tried and basso took damage

I thought you were refering to Break from Cracscleft Prison... Basso escaping unaided while unconscious would be something to see.

I too have completed Running Interference without doing anything.
I'm not sure what the determining factor is, but getting as far away as you can from where Basso should be seems to help, but even then it doesn't always work. As someone suggested, it's probably the computer neglecting to simulate what's going on so far from Garret's periphery.

hmmm, if only we could pinpoint how to make basso do what grungeman said each and every time the mission is loaded. it'd help grealty on thief speed runs....

The same thing happened to me the very first time i ever played that mission. I accidently blew the whistle while i was still learning the controls, and he ran off and completed the mission himself.
