Basic uv-mapping tutorial for static meshes. - by Flux

Here is one tutorial to load your matlibs in 3dsmax, apply textures to your objects and basics of uv-mapping.

Thanks Flux. I keep getting these jagged shapes in the textures though. I made a cone shaped mesh, could that have something to do with it?
Selecting 'box' in the UV Map modifier made it look best but there were still a few of these weird spikes. I can't get it to wrap evenly.
Do you think you could make a tutorial on creating new matlibs please?
I tried making one and was not successful....

Great thing!! :thumb:
It was needed something like that.
Maybe it should be better if you put a copy of this in the FleshWorks section.

You might need to learn how to unwrap to get your weirder shapes to texture properly. Basic shape UVing is nice and quick and all, but it can only take you so far.

Thanks, I will have a closer look at that. It's the UV Wrapping modifier you mean?

Might be. I'm not sure how you'd go about doing it with Max and its modifiers, but ultimately, the process is fairly similar no matter what modeller your using.

Have a look at the Unwrap UVW modifier. That's the one allowing you to adjust the UVs in more precise ways.

Thanks Eshaktaar, they look better but I'm not getting it perfect just yet.
Can anyone tell me how to put more than one texture on a mesh?
I found this tutorial but it's for Unreal : (

Is that the same process or is it different for T3 smeshes?
Thanks,

Nope, actually it's much more simple. You just select the part of a mesh you want to texture (edit mesh/polygon), add the material, add the UVW map, add edit mesh again, select the region to put the next texture, add UVW map, and so on.

Cool, I got that working, thanks. Do you have to Collapse the mesh when you have finished like that tutorial said?
