And that 'someone' also happens to be a few people who were with Bioware a long time ago before they started up Beamdog.

I had originally crafted a real reply, then quickly realized that this thread was clearly a lame attempt at trolling. Subsequent investigation revealed the author of the thread and confirmed my suspicions.

Yeah, I considered that - but if I were Eva, my point would be that these people weren't even the creative forces behind BG so, 'who the fuck are these people'. Hence thread.

Agreed, I'd hardly consider a graphics engine programmer (Trent Oster) to be a "creative force" either.
Regarding Beamdog, maybe they've actually "grown" since whatever reportedly lame original content that they've added to BG1/BG2 EEs? "The Black Pits" seems to be just challenge dungeons from I can gather, hardly something to sustain a 25 hour story campaign. For Beamdog's first "full game" they're probably gonna put a lot more effort in?
Anyway I'm gonna wait for reviews + wait for a Steam sale for sure.

For expansion packs that used to be quite the norm for outside companies with no relation to the developers of the main game, taking on development. Quake 1 for example did this.

My favorite single player campaign for Quake 1 was in fact from Scourge of Armagon (from Ritual Entertainment no less).
In terms of expansions, some of the most interesting (not necessarily better or worse) expansions were from third party developers. Now unfortunately a lot of them mostly added more multiplayer maps for more hours of enjoyment if that was your thing. But a few did add some interesting single player campaigns. But that is really beside the point.
The point being that, & lets' do be honest here, considering this expansion is being built for the original Baldur's Gate...
I don't really think the bar is being set
too high for Beamdog. Baldur's Gate had some interesting characters (
my favorite being Minsc & Boo) & a good enough storyline. If anything, it definitely reinvigorated interest in RPGs & games based on the D&D rule set in general. But if you're going to complain about anyone attempting to make an expansion to the original Baldur's Gate... then let's lay all the cards on the table. The quests for the original were all run-of-the-mill, & you could pretty much find better in every field in other RPG's. After all... Bioware doesn't have the best track record when it comes to great storylines, great in-depth characters, & intriguingly detailed quests. The characters & storyline were good, but Black Isle proved they could be done a hell of a lot better with Planescape: Torment alone using the exact same engine no less. Hell, just give me Morte from Planescape: Torment & I'm good for any situation (my top NPC of all time is a tie between (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morte) Mortimer "Morte" Rictusgrin & (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Longest_Journey_characters#Crow) Crow after all). Now give me (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annah-of-the-Shadows) Annah-of-the-Shadows plus (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Planescape:_Torment_characters#Fall-From-Grace) Fall-From-Grace (toss in (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Planescape:_Torment_characters#Nordom_Whistleklik) Nordom Whistleklik for good measure) & you got the best comedy troop anywhere.
Now Beamdog's track record shows they can at least work with (& upgrade to a small degree) the infinity engine. But based on the three titles they have released so far... their QA department is sorely lacking. So what I'm expecting is a good expansion with some decent characters, a good small chunk of story compared to the overall plot, & some new interesting areas that will be worth the price of admission for anyone looking to extend their experience in Baldur's Gate... but all of this will unfortunately be
plagued with bugs. But keep in mind this is all just my $0.02 & you can take from that what you will.
