Although it seems that the BG saga is finished, at least on the PCs, Blac Isle studios have released BG: Dark Alliance on the PS2 only.
If here are any PSers here, I would like to aske them on their opinions on this game, especially about the plot, as I am not sure if it continues the BG storyline in some way or if it has plain new story. Are some locations or characters familiar from PC BGs back?
And what about the graphics and gameplay? I suppose it doesn't use the Infinity engine anymore?

Well, first of all, the plot is totally different than the other BG games. The only connection it has is that part of the game takes place in the city of Baldur's Gate. I can't recall if there are any returning characters from the previous games.
The graphics are pretty much some of the best graphics you'll see on the PS2 (just look inside the ice caverns in chapter 2). It uses a 3D engine (with 2D gameplay) that you can fully rotate and zoom at will. The game itself plays more like Diablo or Phantasy Star Online than any of the standard BG games, and it's 2-player simultanious.. which brings back some of that classic Gauntlet-type fun. I'd pick it up if you can find it for a good price, as the game isn't terribly long. It does have a bit of replay value though, as you can play your character through multiple difficulty levels, much like Diablo. There are hints of a sequel in the game's epilogue.

Well, it sounds like an excellent example of a PS2 game - action, action and more action. No long dialogs, no diffcult puzzles, no complex plot at all.
Haven't missed much.
Thanks for the info though.

the water in that game is FANTASTIC.
there didn't seem to be much deep plot development, but the hack n slash gameplay was fun. getting more powerful gear to slay all of the enemies was FUN.
i played a total of about 5 boards with my friends. multiplayer is the way to go. i don't think i could play that game as a single-player adventure.

As a Diablo-lite game it was rather fun. Might have to pick this up again if it's reasonably priced.
