hello looking glass friends :)
i have a realy big problem with uw1. i was playing the last days like a lunatic on uw1, reached lv.5 and wanted to get the "ring of humility". so i enter the room with the 4 switches. i use the combination, nw, se, se, sw, like i did get the combination from on of the knights in level 4.
the ring should appear in the middle of the room, on this podium. BUT it wont :wot:
so i searched in the www for an walktrough. it sayed, to avoid the middle of the room, until the switches are in they proper direktion. so i did that... still no ring
:eww:
so i found another walktrough. there was another combination for the switches: nw, se, ne, SE.
still no ring
:eww: :laff: :eww:
and last but not least, there is another walktrough, that says.. if the ring does not appear, the switches have the wrong direction (before the room was entered). so the nw-switch has to bee up and the others down.
so put the nw-switch up and the others down and did then the proper combination.
yes you think right.... still no ring on the podium. :bored:
i have 2 versions of uw1. a cd-rom and a floppy version. i tried both no... ring....
i dont come behind it, what i am doing wrong.
when i enter the room, all switches are down, except the north-east one. this one is pointing UP.
could PLEASE some one help me???
i uploaded my savegame. it starts right before the room. maybee someone would like to have a try :)

Try standing on the podium where the ring is supposed to appear, cast daylight or something, don't move (just turn), cast telekinesis, manipulate the levers from this spot. Worked for me.
Oh yes, both your combinations are wrong. No lever is repeated twice. Try NW, SE, NE, SW. May work even w/o the method I described

thank you, for your answer. i level my mana up, so i can use the telekinesis-spell, jumped (shift+j) from the beginning of the room on the podium (so i dont touch the floor) and did the combination: nw, se, ne, sw..... no ring...
i uploaded the updatet savegame with more mana and short bevor the room.
may i you import the savegame to your uw and have a look please???
you would do me a big favor and i would be very thankful.

(just open the file with winzip and copy the files in your save1-folder. of course, before you did a backup of your savegame ;)

I've downloaded your save and tried a bunch of things but cant get the ring to appear either. I even tried using the UW character editor to add it to your inventory but that doesnt seem to work.....
Do you have any older saves then this one?

Jeeze. IGNORE my last post.
I just tried it again and found out how to make the ring appear in your save consistently.
1. Load the last save you posted.
2. Walk into the middle of the room, stand to south of the center podium, touching it.
3. Cast telekenesis.
4. Flip switches in this order: NW,SE,NE,SW
Ring will appear on podium.
Remember the red dot on the in-game compass always points north, like an actual compass. So when the dot is pointing NW you are actually facing NE.
Code:
/--------------------\
| NW NE ----------
| [ ]
| SW SE __________

Actually - I remember this puzzle.
You don't need to use telekinesis - the trick is to not cross the centre of the room - stick to the walls - and pull the switches in order - and it all works fine.
