Do you also have a special computer that you only use for pointless thread resurrections?

A pointless thread?! Go away little boy. :)

I have a dual boot Win98/XP system too. Most of the time I forget about the small Win98 partition, since it boots into XP by default if I don't choose another option on the 5 second startup menu. It is nice to have it though, since I often play older games, and then if it won't run on XP I can still play it.
In one case if I install the game on XP it is buggy; but I can install it on the Win98 OS, then create a shortcut to the .exe on the WinXP desktop, and it then plays perfectly in WinXP, running off the Win98 partition!

Exactly why I have it Kefren, but I give my Win98SE a bit more respect than you by having a 20 second delay! LOL!!! (Just open boot.ini in your first partition, be that XP or Win98 (it will be in the root directory) and you can change which OS boot automatically and how much delay you want! With a 5 second delay, I can see why you don't go into Win98 that often!
Let's also not forget how I had a internet connection problem pop up and the only way I could get to hte web to google how to fix it was through my win98, so it's useful for more than just retro gaming! :)
With a collection of over 100 pre 2000 titles, I find myself using Win98 quite a lot. For games I really love I will try them in XP, either with DOSBox or the compatibility option and then will try it in win98, which OS plays it better, that's what I use! Sometimes a game plays nicer (smoother framerate, better sound, etc) in DOSBox on my Win98 than it will on the same version DOSBox in XP!
When it comes to retro PC gaming I would be lost without my Win98 OS! I am so glad I kept it all those years ago, because I can understand why people would see it as a big job now! :)
By the way, with System Shock I am finding that with the above FAQ I am playing it perfectly in XP, whereas it struggles a little in 98 - so I don't diss XP totally! LOL!

That's an extra 20 seconds to the boot time of your computer every time you're not paying attention.
When I used to have dual-boot, I had all the delays set to zero seconds, so it would always boot into the default unless I was pushing one of the arrow keys during startup.

But if I am at the computer I don't sit there for 20 seconds, I hit enter on the OS I want in about 3 seconds, and when I am away from the PC while it boots another 20 seconds doesn't mean anything really and the OS is usually booted to the desktop by the time I get to the keyboard!
So either way, it doesn't really matter, it just means that you have a relaxed time choosing which OS you want to boot into at that particular time! :)
While I am here I might as well recommend Terra Nova: Task Force Centauri highly too - and a Microprose RPG called 'Darklands' for those that can see the light at the end of the System Shock tunnel! :)

Returning to the topic. It actualy does not work. While the keys are remapped ok in win xp, in dosbox they stay the same. And SS runs with olod config.
