I really liked the demo, however I wish I didn't HAVE to use magic. IE:The torch part, you need to use magic there, lame. Also, from what I have seen, they could add abit more of the "Play how you want to play", (or whatever the slogan is), to the game. Take the cell, instead of only being able to bend the bars open, why not be able to talk to the guard and piss him off. If you do it he tells you to shut up etc. It would be cool if you kept making noise, if he came into the cell to give you abit of a kickin'. Then BAM you take him out. Hopefully the full version will involve more possibilities in different situations.
Also has anyone noticed the viewpoint is really....strange? I have played insane amounts of FPS, and in Arx it seems the edges of the screen stretch out. Kinda like when you are drunk in certain games how they distort the POV, it almost made me sick because I never have played a game very long as a drunk.
Anyways I liked the demo.
Nice to meet you all, I forgot my old name cause I have not been here in like a year =\

Right click a torch in your inventory. It'll light and equip. Voila. No magic.

I know about the torches. I am talking of the specific situation where you MUST use magic to light the wall torches. I don't want to be a thief who uses magic.

You dont have to light them you know.

i agree with you, Couderc.
Unforunatly, being able to interact with AI like that doesnt' seem like it'll be an option :(

It would be great if one always could chose between a magical way of doing things ( like spells to light a fire or torch, and a more conventional way of doing the same, like using matches (or whatever) to light a fire or a torch.;) You have torches in your inventory, when you press t they light up, so apparently you do have matches afterall:cheeky: , and you should then in a perfectly logical world be able to light the other torches on the wall (or make a fire) with the torch your already holding in your hand. Just wanted to mention this on the fly:rolleyes:

But sill, lighting the torches is pretty damn useless. It just adds a cool effect.

It's just a way to introduce the magic system. In-game tutorial, y'know? Lighten up.
Glorofin on 15/3/2002 at 14:28
Ehh.. yeah, I know. But that's not the point here, right?

I haven't tried, but can't you "use" your burning torch on the torches on the wall and on the fire?
I also found it very annoying that:

You can't make torches

You can't pick up the torches on the wall

All the torches burn for a *very* short time. Technically, you could just carry more, butI think it it unrealistic to carry more than a few. I hope that you get other methods of lighting, like an oil lamp. And sorry, but I don't like the nightvision effect. It is something you don't want to have casted all the time, since it is too noisy etc.
On a lighter (ha!) note, most of the game areas so far were very good lit and I didn't use torches a lot. Fine by me! ;)

The torches on the wall are burning indefinitely long. When they run out, you can just relight them. Ah, but perhaps because it is magic? ;) So, if you could relight them with your burning torch in your hand, you should be able to do this only once.

Cheers,
Tels
