Hmmm. I suspect some people would rather judge a person by the color of their avatar than by the character of their posts. ;)

I've been lurking here for a while, and I haven't actually noticed that avatars aren't allowed. I just thought it was what you did here.
^ is why I lurk, and not participate.

I do tend to forget that the internet is squarely divided into delicate kindergarten teachers and dock workers who wish they were Mark Twain or Hemmingway and each horrifies the other in equal measure.

Personally I like the idea of allowing avatars as long as the animated ones are forbidden and max size is reasonable.
I totally agree. Also as far as rhe "annoyance" is concerned, I have never really seen people complaining about it this much on other forums, if anything, as someone else mentioned before, it adds clarity to who is who in a long discussion. I personally find following the names much more confusing, slow and inconvenient, and on top of that having avatars really helps remembering both the person and their name, because it gives you a more easy mental anchor point. And avatars not fitting the tone of discussion, as someone noted before? That's an empty argument to me, because it assumes that "avatars need to fit a specific tone of discussion". Does my face need to fit as specific vibe of conversation as well? Yeah...

Resurrecting an 11 year-old thread for this is unnecessary - the decision was taken a very long time ago not to include them. No offence but being able to browse the forum without catgirl avatars (as a completely random example unrelated to your profile) really is for the best.
