AUTO-EQUIP CHALLENGE FOR THIEF GOLD
Played on Expert, Newdark
So again I'm doing this challenge. This time for Thief Gold. The rule of this challenge is simple. You can't manually select items and weapons. You can only select them by using auto-equip. In other words you must pick them up. Of course items has tendency to vanish out of a screen after some time. To prevent that you can drop them and pick them up again. You only can't pick up lockpicks, so you need to avoid using it.
With weapons it's harder. There is only one instance to pick up sword and only one to pick up blackjack. You can shoot broadhead arrows into wooden surface, but after 2 min not looking at them, they vanish. But you can pick it from archers. You can shoot rope arrow into wooden surface and it will never disappear. With other arrows is harder. After finding them you must transport them to the place where you want use it.
A KEEPER'S TRAINING
The only tricky part is weapon training. Game expects me to take both weapons and start with bow. That's a problem. If I could start with a sword, I could choose bow later by earlier shooting arrow into wooden fence and picking it up to choose after sword training. If I could leave sword on table and take it after bow training. But I can't, which means the only option for me is to skip this training, by mantling on balcony and doing strafe jump on roof above entrance, then going to the next challenge, which is easy.

MISSION 1 - LORD BAFFORD'S MANOR
This mission is easy. It is a bit tricky at the top floor. Usually I douse 4 torches in room just before Throne Room, but I couldn't find any water arrows in this mansion. When guard turned away, I mantled on entrance, then on wooden beam. I waited for him to turn and dropped on him. It bounced me into Throne Room. Then I went on his side and waited for him to turn, so I could escape. No one spotted me except 4 spiders in cave.

Couldn't you wait in a shadow for a guard to pass, nab his key, then just unlock the door, run past the guy in the throne room, nab the sceptre, then run to the exit. That's what I do when Iron Manning that mission.

I could, but I felt safer to do it quietly. Besides dropping on people from high place is actually quite fun. Especially when you drop from very high place. You should try it sometimes.

I remember in the the original dark project (not the gold release) in the last city - I was doing a kangaroo bunny-hop run & jump to the tower to grap the talismans at the start of the mission. I missed the jump and the "aaaaaagh!" ended with the fire elemental i landed on dying and then me bouncing off onto the ground with no damage.
I was was laughing so hard i misjudged my movements and proceeded to walk into the lava and die.

MISSION 2 - BREAK FROM CRAGSCLEFT PRISON
In this mission I noticed 2 other ways of selecting water arrows: by using holy water bottle lying on floor or by using holy fountain. This way I managed to kill zombies on highest floor of mine. Also noticed that dead body of Hammerite on this floor, gets affected by holy water. In other words it's actually body of haunt.
Next is Prison and first challenge in this run - carrying white key from Sewers to Barracks. This was tricky, because of priest that appeared in front of stairs leading to Barracks. And accidentally I 2nd alerted him by dropping key on floor. So I ran past him. Then I looted this place. I even got golden hammer what alerted priest and novice. But I hid upstairs. When situation calmed down, I returned for white key I left on carpet at the beginning of Barracks. Of course in other direction I needed to alert priest near stairs. I hid in cell.
Prison is annoying, because of automatically closing door. Good thing a lot of patrollers have keys for them. In order to get to cell controls, I lean for key from stationary Hammerite in Control Room, then I open door and drop key in corner near cell. Save and then I read book. Reload and try to open correct cell. Someday I will need to make notes what lever open what cell. Then I check if it was correct lever and leave.
Also moving Basso through these automatic doors is annoying. I unlock door, go on the other side, lock it and unlock it to reset timer, drop key, return for Basso and quickly go through door. This time I decided to use safer route through Factory. I had luck with Hammerite guarding elevator and managed to hid in shadow near stairs, which was dark enough, so even if he walked into me, he didn't alerted to me. Then just ride mine elevator to Level 3 and finish this mission.

MISSION 3 - DOWN IN THE BONEHOARD
Another not very terrible run. I made some bad decisions. I had problem to jump on rope in first burricks cave. I also found rope arrow in hole with diamonds in eyes of demon head. I dropped on floor, then down there to obtain it. But I didn't use it. Instead I stacked 2 rocks and strafe jumped to Marad's Crypt. If I knew getting rope arrows would be so simple, then I would use it. Mystic Heart and Horn of Quintus were easy to obtain, but with Mystic Soul I made some bad decisions.
I wasn't sure if it will not be better to leave 6 fire arrows in chest and return for it later. And I thought that maybe I will not find any water arrows to kill fire shadow, so I decided to gather rocks to climb the ladder (ghost way). But later I found holy fountain, which select for me water arrows. I douse area under ladder, killed fire shadow and realized that if I would grab fire arrows from chest, I could grab fire arrow from fire shadow and launch them at torches. But I didn't do it, so I waited in shadows at the entrance to kill fire shadow 4 more times.

So here's a question: why is it shows in stats only 1 kill? I killed fire shadow 5 times to get 5 fire arrows. Does respawned fire shadows not count as a kill?
Cigam on 22/6/2020 at 19:45
I don't think you "kill" the fire shadow, he just runs away. Many AIs have a flee mode. I think you can just straight sword fight a fire shadow if you have no water?
Yes that Burrick cave rope is a pain.
Galaer on 22/6/2020 at 19:53
If fire shadow escaped and I didn't kill him, why in the stats I have 1 kill? That's mysterious. Also I can't use sword in this challenge. Selecting it manually would be a bust.
Also while playing this mission I realized how big nightmare will be final mission. I'm not looking forward to it.

Yes, the Fire Shadow can of course be killed(if it can be called that) by the sword. Unlike zombies he is prone to "normal" weapons.
Aside that, this challenge seems to be for people with too much time on their hand.
