To take a leaf out of SD's book: well, fuck off then. ;)
Seriously, you guys have no idea how good you have it over here - some minor concerns over a likely to fail or never even be attempted internet filter are a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things.

Its not that simple, though, as political sites have already been added to the DCMA blacklist. Most notably, wikileaks is on there. The implications of them pushing for this are pretty big. Course, its not there yet, but keep in mind that China's internet filter also exists to "block pornography".

That getting out was one of the bigger publicity nightmares for their ostrensibly child protecting goals. It's old news though. They've swallowed some snake oil from some underhand security company lobbying, but in the six or seven years some government has been looking into it (maybe longer) they haven't managed to get anything working and the industry is in active revolt against it.
Atkinson stepping down finally opens the way for ratings reform (the ratings system being core to the blacklist) which also slows things down somewhat. And in order to drum up public support the gov need to side with Fielding whose proving himself to be an outright Right Wing religious loony at every opening of his gob.
I'm optimistic, in short.

The Rudd government is looking pretty punch drunk right now, I find it very hard to believe that they will try to push this through and fight another war on a highly unpopular front, with the mining tax and ETS issues already raping their approval ratings in the face.

Watching K Rudd cry in his final speech was a really unnerving experience.
