I personally like Goldwave. It has a trial, I don't remember if it stops working after the trial is over or just bugs you. I'm sure some other people have some totally free ones if you need a longer solution.

I dont know exactly what you want to do, but i use mostly magix music maker (really, it is a good tool :) ) to edit and dbpowerAMP Music Converter to convert.

Why do I get the impression you registered just to pimp your software? The guy said free, and that it is not.

According to "Fleximusic Wave Editor"'s website :
Quote:
Music tracks in Wav format are extremely large in size, averaging around 50MB in size.
That means that the average music track is around 5 minutes in length. I don't know about anyone else, but in my experience, the average song length is closer to 3 min (30MB). I guess it's nitpicky, but my problem with it is that the website is using misleading info to make their program look better than it really is, by claiming to save so much more space... That was a pointless rant...

I highly recommend Goldwave for audio editing. However, if you ever want to include custom audio(like voice overs) in a T1/2 mission, do your editing with goldwave with the CD-quality setting, and then use some other program to convert it to the required format for thief, since for some reason Goldwave doesn't save that one particular required format "correctly" (It's correct everywhere else, just not in Theif! go figure...) Anyway, if you're doing stuff for T3, it should be great for you.
BTW, if you use the older version (4.26) of Goldwave, it doesn't ever actually expire. You just have to restart it every 100 commands or so. The newer version will supposedly expire after a total of 1500 commands or something like that. Just my 2 cents.

CDEX is a good program for converting tracks wav>mpeg vise versa, good for extracting CD tracks too.
