I'm trying to play Deus Ex with the 1.014 patch and it's just not happy. I had the breaking up audio problem but after updating my drivers and the program itself, that went away. But now I have a new problem.
Certain AIs attempt to invoke a 'bark' method of some sort (something like AudioAIBarks) that causes an assertion failure and the program crashes. This is highly repeatable. I just need to find the right character and shoot them with the crossbow. Just when they should yell 'Yeargh!' the program exits to the windows desktop. After a few seconds, an error dialog pops up with one of the longest call stacks I've ever seen in an assertion dialog.
Has anyone else seen this? Is there a work around? I've tried running in various safe modes, including disabling audio altogether and disabling 3dnow support but these don't help.
