Attempting to get into morrowind again for the third time... - by GoldenNugget

Any tips for me to get started up?
Also what are good mods/plugins that add to the graphics/gameplay?
And,
I've tried some plugins, but whenever I start up the game, I get a lot of error messages. The game works fine, but it gets annoying to click yes a lot of times each time to start playing. Any way to get rid of this problem?
Btw, I'm playing the original with no expansions.
Thanks for the replies.

I hope your third romp through Vvardenfell takes.
It is difficult to recommend mods in your situation, since many of them require one or both of the expansions to function properly. This may account for some of the error messages that you have seen. Check the readme that was unpack with the mods you're running, it will tell you if Tribunal or Bloodmoon master files are required. Some mod authors specify the requirements to run their mods in the description before you download it, so you won't waste your time.

(
http://www.psychodogstudios.net/betterbodies/downloads.php) Better Bodies 2.0 - Great and extensively-perfected mod that replaces the old, ugly, segmented Bethesda bodies with new seamless ones.
(
http://khalazza.production.free.fr/all_plugins.php/) NPC Replace 3.50 - Great mod, replaces all the ugly Bethesda heads in the game with new heads that look beautiful and are [sometimes] even lower in polygons than the normal Bethesda heads.
(
http://www.thelys.org/mods.php?a=TheLys#Seasons) Seasons 1.02 - Replaces a great deal of the trees with new ones that have textures that change according to seasons of the year. I think it also changes the weather patterns (ever since installing it I have been getting a great deal more rain in the Bitter Coast region).
(
http://khalazza.production.free.fr/all_plugins.php/) Visual Packs 2.11 & 2.20 - Replaces most of the textures in the game with newer, better textures.
(
http://unforgottenrealms.net/downloads2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1296) Visual Pack XT - Adds new textures and updates older ones from Visual Packs 2.11 & 2.20. Must be installed after Visual Packs 2.11 and 2.20.
(
http://www.euro-morrowind.com/index.php?section=plugin&code=05&id=4106) Visual Pack XT Expansion - Adds even more textures and replaces some of the ones from Visual Packs 2.11, 2.20, and XT. Must be installed after Visual Packs 2.11, 2.20, and XT.
Also, I wouldn't recommend downloading plugins from people that aren't somewhat known in the Elder Scrolls community. Downloading mods titled "bobs gun shop" with a description of "adds guns 2 mrrowind" will most likely screw up your installation.
As for tips, if you want early starting money, grab an invisiblity spell and pinch the Sword of White Woe from one of the guard towers in either Suran or Balmora (forgot which, when I played it was in Suran).

You forgot the excellent "Atmospheric Sound Effects" mod (sorry, don't have a link to it), which makes the world seem a bit more alive aurally and replaces some of the most annoying sounds (esp. the bloody ridge racers) with less annoying sounds.
If you're playing a female character you may also consider some of the 9463 clothing plugins to make your appearance more individualistic. ;) Male characters don't seem to have much any clothing mods, unfortunately... :/
Hmm, I don't have most of those plugins... For me the issue is not so much polygons as it's texture memory. Are those textures merely "better", or also larger?

Thanks I'll try out those plugins.
Do you guys suggest I explore the area around the starting town a bit then take the strider?

Taking the strider is quicker and easier certainly, but I personally recommend walking, unless you're in a hurry. It burns calories and increases cardiac output, and besides there are far too many striders clogging the roads today :cheeky:
Seriously, there are opportunities for adventure along the way if you go on foot. You run into some interesting characters in various places, you get the chance to fight some creatures, thus raising your skills, and you get to see the beautiful scenery, including some really nice hidden away spots :)
But exploring the surrounding area of Seyda Neen is a good idea. Morrowind is a game that rewards those who wander off the beaten track to do their own thing, definitely. You never know what might be waiting round the next corner....

Just a few that I have been getting myself to use...
Walk Everywhere, build your own home in the Construction Kit, Use all Magic, Use No Magic, and Stick close to the official game as possible (personal preference)

I got into the game and its fun.
I enjoy punching people to death (went from ~20 in hand to hand and now at ~80 :P).

There is indeed a way to get rid of this. I think you have to change something in one of the Morrowind files.
Sadly, I've forgotten what... :tsktsk: :erg:
I don't have Morrowind on my computer anymore sadly and can't offer any help as my friend has the cd. You may be able to dig something up over at the Morrowind forums or prehaps someone here knows how.
There is a way though...

Put "AllowYesToAll=1" into your Morrowind.ini, but if your getting a lot of error messages thats bad, it may crash your game, lag, models may be missing, you may grow a third foot, etc...
