hey Biker do you know of any bios editors that can change the memory timings of an hd2900 card? Rabit looked promising but the last update was in Jan 07 which is before my card was released.

Its not something I have ever done an any gfx card, I prefer to just changes fans and clock speeds..
but yeah rabit is the only other editor I would have recommended.

I tried RBE and my drivers no longer recognized my card and i had no hardware accel. After 4 more attempts to change the settings around so it would work, I gave up and went back to stock. Seems that the simple act of using RBE to make a new bios file corrupted the file or something cuz it didn't work once and i re-installed the catalyst several times.

Hi Rm
Its possible your not doing it right, Did you download the apps from the links at the beginning of the thread, Ive been flashing and editing bios's for years and never had a bad flash.
if you still have it, send me your original bios that you saved using GPU-Z 0.2.7 then email it to me - my addy is in my profile.

Thanks for the offer. I would be interested in knowing what I did wrong. I got the bios file from gpu-z. I'm sure I did that correctly. Then all I did was open it in RBE, change a couple of fan temps and the 2D clock freqs down 50 mhz or so and that was it. I didn't change anything else. Then I saved and used winflash. Flash was successful, boot was successful, the display was rendering but only in 2D. It looked precisely as though there were no drivers installed and i got an error box saying the drivers couldn't recognize the card.

Ok I assume you've got the unaltered bios that you downloaded using gpuz. re-flash the card with the stock bios to make sure the card is fine. Then, edit the bios again only changing the 1st fan speed from 2% upto 6%. then flash the card and tell me how you get on.
Also what make and model of card do you have.

Sapphire HD2900 XT 512 MB PCI-E
Before I gave up I tried changing nothing but one fan temp by a couple degrees and that's it....didn't work. My card is fine now with the original bios but it seems that when RBE opens the file it doesn't know what card it is. It says unknown where it should say hd2900 and both leaving it alone and setting it to HD2900XT has the same effect.

According to the RBE literature, my card should be supported and in fact it is listed in the ID window as one of the possible video cards to select. I must be doing something else wrong.
I found Rabit very enticing but the thing with that program is that it hasn't been updated since Jan, 07....well before the 2900 XT came out. Since the core architecture is so much different from the 1900 and it's variants, I don't think it would be safe to push my luck with that editor. I've heard of ppl successfully upping their 2900 pros to XT status using RBE. I just can't figure out what they're doing that I'm not. I suppose it's not really a big deal since I already use rivatuner to control my clock speed.
