If you're talking about that silly "organization" calling itself Anonymous, they come straight from 4chan.
Anonymous may have its origins in /b/, but it has long since expanded far beyond it. Currently, /b/ is mostly for idiots and other degenerates.

Look at that, beggars cut themselves crowns out of cardboard. How cute.

What have you people done to my attempted non-sequitur meme.

This is TTLG, no matter what you say, someone is either going to take offense to it, or comment on it in some asinine manner. Intelligent conversation is somewhat rare, especially in /b/...err, CommChat.

Commshat has it's own brand of idiocy.
I like the idea of anonymous posting, I like the reduced software they use and I like the creativity there. I don't think the racist, homophobic, misogynistic, anti-intellectual and generally disgusting posts are a corollary of anonymity. 4chan has a well known image of being the public toilet of the internet. Hence it's postings are the virtual equivalent of restroom graffiti. Most of them are provocative bullshit, some are ingenious and some are memes.

CommChat (and GGaming) walks the thin line between seriousness and dicking around. It is the best of both worlds.

Maybe it's for the best.
I've heard those boards can get pretty horrible. I try to stay away from it.
