Just wondering, while doing the main quest with my first character(i restarted not too far in.. level 12 cause he sucked) i got asura's star, and decided to keep it for a bit and seee if i could trap some kick ass souls, but it doesnt seem like it has the capacity it did in Morrowind. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Azura's Star has the capacity to hold any non-NPC creature's soul that you can kill in the game, same as a grand soul gem. Just like in Morrowind.

But in morrowind it could hold
Vivec's soul
, so its not as powerful then i take it.

If you're meaning that it can't hold an NPCs' soul, that's because in Oblivion only Black Grand Soul Gems can do that. It's like that so as to tie into the Mages Guild quests. Capacity hasn't changed, it's just that NPCs are considered to have a separate class of souls now.

oh, yea, i was just reading about that, and i guess it makes sense. But at the same time, in morrowind Azura's star was the most powerful soul gem able to hold any soul, where in Oblivion it seems that a black grand soul gem can be just as powerful.. making Azura's Star a reuseable Grand Sould gem.. Though i have no arguements :)

Well, all grand soul gems in Morrowind were able to hold any soul, I believe. Azura's Star hasn't changed at all, it's only that the types of souls classed as 'grand' have.
Besides, there's no Vivec to try it on. :)

forgive me for dragging this on :P
In Morrowind: A grand soul gem could hold any Soul that was not a "person" Aka. any NPC character. (Since all mosnters are technically NPCs too by definition.)
Any person in morrowind was unable to be soultrapped at all.
vivec was soultrappable, and the most powerful soul in the game.
Oblivion: Seems like Evrything stays the same now that i think about it, the only problem is you cant trap uber-powerful souls, cause there are none.
The only difference is the BGlack Soul gems to trap people's souls.
Does that seem accurate?

Yeah, seems about right. You'll have to forgive me, but I'm not up to speed on soultrapping in Morrowind, because I was a bit of an elitist snob: I only went for Golden Saint souls. ;)
Plus I really need to actually FINISH Morrowind, too. :p

Almalexia wasn't in Morrowind.
