Asking a little TOO much from Spector... - by King Ronald

Hi guys.
I just had a thought - why is it that wherever you go in the whole of the game is it always night-time? I mean, it made sense in the first three missions where you go after the NSF, but by the time you are helping Paul it should be morning. Has global warming destroyed the sun or something?
Discuss - Deus Ex always at night, better than day/night cycle or not?

As I recall, Vandenburg/later is dawn; the sun's just poking up on the horizon. The darkness was for symbolic reasons...
Also, consider the sneak in a mission it broad daylight - few shadows - very hard....

If half the game took place during the day, let's see....that would require another cd, wouldn't it? The perpetual night was also convenient because then the game wouldn't be such a system hog, what with all those huge files already containing a crapload of information and branching gameplay paths, much of which you wouldn't come across on your first run of the game.
Besides, the nighttime was a perfect setting for this type of story. Let's see what DX2 does about day/nighttime settings.

Hi.
Firstly, perhaps - in response to the day/night thing - you could have daytime missions where you shoot lots, and night missions where you sneak lots. Or maybe not, what do you lot think?
Second, why are there these aliens crawling around in Versalife and Area 51? They get made from a UC, fine, but on the pic of the autopsy, instead of saying something like
"Clone 34985554509 - Versalife" (as with the Greasels)
It says something like:
"Clone 3904840966 - Alien DNA" so it can't be man-made? Can it?
Finally, Why isn't there an autopsy pic of a Karkian? They have ones on all the other UC constructed beasties - even Walton Simons.
And the woman in the Ocean Lab shuttle port said they were the researchers favourite...

No. The point of DX is to give the player a choice about how s/he plays. The player shouldn't be forced to shoot a lot because it's daytime.

Good point.
Yeah fine - keep it at night, it's cooler that way and you can sneak AND shoot and it's totally up to you.
Does anyone think the gas grenades could be better?
Does anyone think that Smuggler and the French guy in the Metro charge way too much?
Actually, that reminds me of another thing - Smuggler is an utter git. He hears of how MJ12 are going to infect the whole of North America with the virus, and STILL charges you loads for the LAMs needed to sink the ship. Did anyone actually like him, or bother to save him?
ICEBreaker on 5/4/2002 at 07:19
I agree. For saving Ford Schick, his friend from the MJ12, he gives you a "discount" on his goods. Shouldn't he give me something for FREE?!
Phydeaux on 5/4/2002 at 07:48
Buisness is buisness. An auto mechanic ain't gonna give you a free transmission just because you took his friend's dog to the vet after it got ran over.
Especially when the world's in turmoil and it's everyone for himself, you can't expect a guy to simply give away free illegal munitions.

I always feel that way in RPGs, I mean in Diablo or Baldur's Gate; "thanks for saving us from the ______, please, kill _____ or we'll all die!! You're our only hope!! ... That'll be 10,000 gold pieces please". I mean, I'm fighting to save THEM. Gah...
Anyway, Smuggler. What is worth more: A friend's life, or a weapon?
