The gesture system was an excellent way of adding tension to spell based combat.

Yeah, I never really had any trouble casting spells (though I did tend to just bank three fireballs for combat purposes). The Void added a really cool thing to gesture based spell casting (that Arkane really should have thought of first) by making the world slows down significantly when you enter the spell casting mode.

Casting bullet time?!
I disagree with you there. I think that a better system would be enough. I dunno why, but bullet time tends to take my immersion away.

I think Arx's system is great. If you have a problem with it just precast the spells you want. Then they are ready at the touch of a key. What could be better? :thumb:

It's a great system on paper. If it allowed a little leeway in drawing the runes, then it would've been a nice, interesting take on the usual spell casting system. Now I'm usually fairly decent at playing games that require some kind of gesture to do whatever, but I found Arx requirements to be too exacting when drawing the shapes. In a busy situation, I only rarely got it to work on a first try (or sometimes even a second or a third).
Admittedly, being able to store your spells helped alleviate some of the problems with the casting system. But if you were going for a pure caster playthrough, only being able to queue up 3 or 4 spells didn't help too much.

Well, ever tried a full spellcaster? It simply isn't feasible, unless you train the runes you are most likely going to use until you perfect them. And even then, it's a life of stafing back and yelling 'C'mon, your damned rune!' (And, of course, lowering your mouse sensibiliity.)

I prefer my mouse to be rather sensible.

Not when you want to get your runes in the first attempt.

The speed/confidence trade-off is what makes it fun.
And it's not that hard! Full spell caster is the best way to play the game, imo.

Hi Guys,
Thank you for taking an interest in our Arx - End Of Sun project!
I thought you might like to know that we have been making tremendous progress with the mod and have just published our first game-play video.
If you are interested, why not take a look here: (
http://www.moddb.com/mods/arx-end-of-sun/news/arx-end-of-sun-first-gameplay-video)
Currently there are only 2 full time developers of this project, myself and 'Neurological' and we are looking to source someone to help up produce 3D characters for the mod.
It has been suggested to us the posting a request for help on this forum would be a good idea in that respect? - being new here, not sure where the best place to do that would be?
Thank you again for your interest. Maybe stop by on Mod DB or the projects blog now and again to see the progress?
Cheers
