Originally posted by Oldtimer I picked it up at EB last night for $40.00. Installed it. Hopefully, I'll be able to get started today. I haven't played with the options yet, but I'm not given the option to enable EAX, maybe I need new drivers.
This is mentioned in the readme (4.6), and I had the same problem with my Nforce chipset audio after first installing the game.
Installing the "EAX Unified" drivers from the /autorun/redist directory on the cd worked for me.

Do you know if these new drivers overwrite what the sound driver which is already installed in the system? I worry, since I have "the latest" (so it says on Creative site) driver, and would not want to revert to something older...
(my copy of the game has not arrived yet, though I had the problem with EAX in the demo, have an Audigy card)
Thanks!

I reinstalled my own Audigy card over the weekend, because I wasn't happy with the positional sound and reverb quality with the Nforce audio. The "EAX Unified" drivers would not be necessary for anyone who was already running a Live or Audigy to begin with, though.
There is still one big sound issue, though - audio settings are not restored when starting a game for me (with the 1.14 game executable), so I have to go to the audio panel and change the levels and toggle EAX off and on every time I start playing.
Description of EAX Unified drivers I found:
The EAX Unified Interface ensures that the Environmental Audio features of an EAX application can be supported on any PC platform, whether or not it includes a Creative sound card with the latest drivers installed. The Unified Interface looks for a previous version of EAX or compatible standard, and automatically translates EAX calls to the most capable interface found, preserving as much as possible of the Environmental Audio features implemented in the application (including environment reverberation and reflections, as well as occlusion and obstruction effects).

ShadowJack,
I now installed it, and 1.14 too, and EAX is enabled (it was disabled in the demo), so I turn it on - and it did revert back to off a few times, so I edited it in the cfg file, and it seems on now. But! I am not sure if it is working - I would expect lots of echo in the caves etc, and I can't hear much. Maybe they decided to tone it down, so it is not too irritating... do you know? :)
Thanks for the help - I didn't need to install the EAXunified, you are right.
