Well, it was like last month... but I've been too busy playing it to comment here. Heh, I wanted to beat it before I came on... and I made the mistake of being a thief mage first time though. Though thats ok. It made it really interesting suffice to say.
I just have to say it was one of the coolest games I've played since... Like 99. If I had played arx perhaps in 2000 I'm wondering if I'd love it so much... but with the current state of the gaming industry(specially the rpg one. Last entertaining one was fallout2. Sorry all morrowind sucks. Its ok. But if I want to play in a world like a MMORPG I'd prefer it actually be a MMORPG so I can sell characters on e-bay or something. Or you know interact with other players that aren't static.)
So for just $25 I've been playing a great game for the past while. It has a jewel case, a full color thick booklet with tables and awesome gameplay. Why the heck were they selling it so cheap? The games worth more than that! When we have $80 games that the CD's are in crappy leaflets and no book to find just adverts for other games from the publisher! Oh gee. I bet the executive that thought of that one got a big fat bonus for that one.
So breathing some life into the arx forums I am. hopefully we'll get a few more fans in here now that its out. sure there were a few issues(like the jumping system) but in general the game is quite snazzy. I really like the ability to do the quests in the wrong order if you want.
Graphics: pretty good. no its not the shiniest game ever. Though who cares? Its fun. Sound: Fairly good. Some of them seem a bit wrong... And in one scene our friend the
Alchemist sounds like his voice has been badly encoded but aside from that everything is on the up and up.
Gameplay: Where it really shines. It manages to take just 8 small levels and cram something in almost every corner to look at or steal. This game is one that proves that games do not have to be that huge to be horribly entertaining and extend play time. All you have to do is make the players want to find that hidden nook. Or secrete passage. I feel arx does this very effectively.
So if you haven't and you see this forum. Go buy arx!
