Indeed, you are! :) (you are
welcome, that is, not specifically
silly. I once spent an entire afternoon playing civ without knowing how to skip moving a unit (which is pressing 'Esc' btw and makes things like defence much, much easier): now that's silly...!
Something completely different:
Are there any thoughts on the fact that Arx Fatalis glyph looks like a rune but it isn't in the spellbook (according to (
http://notrecause.free.fr/) Les esclaves d'Akbaa... ) ?
Rafs thoughts might be specifically interesting...

It might be a secret rune since someone said there would be hidden spells.
Also, you dont mean the game Civilisation right? Just press space.

Hidden spell: "Ignite Sun" ? :cheeky:
Glorofin on 16/3/2002 at 19:41
:cheeky: That would cool. ;)

First of all i have to say that i liked the game (altough i didn't like the start of the game as much as i liked the last part)
It's the first game in a loooooong while that seems to capture at least some of the feel
of ultima underworld (and that's a really good thing in my book)
Besides several strange logic errors/ai behaviors there are some other things that
annoyed me a bit tough:
* the animations blend so poorly into eachother.. when a guard turns and moves it's
just sooo unrealistic... it almost looks like they're not using any skeleton based
animations, which is what -all- games basically use these days...
* it seems to crash at rather random intervals, no message, it just exits at the desktop
* there should be an autosave, especially because of all the crashes
* sometimes when you exit it just shows a black screen and stays there... forever
* the whole game blinks to black and back when you've moved those small icons from
the taskbar to the side of your screen and set it to "always to top"
this is really annoying
* the lipsyncing is just plain wack, it doesn't make any sense at all, it looks like they're
just opening and closing their mouths at random
* there are cracks in the geometry everywhere, sometimes showing colored pixels of
torches that are somewhere far away
(how difficult is it to simply fix your t-junctions?!?!)
* sometimes textures are mixed up and objects have the wrong texture, or simply don't
draw a texture at all so you can see trough it!?!?
trough which you again can see things far away
* seems to me that culling is done pretty poorly, framerate is pretty low,
also all polygons seem to be split up pretty bad..
* physics is weird, almost all the times i dropped something it went straight trough the
wall.. which is *very* annoying because:
* the icon interface is off, and sometimes you accidentally drop something when you try
to move it to another position in your inventory
(btw. a nice feature might be that the items in your inventory are automatically moved
around to make a big enough space for something you want to pick up, if possible &
necesarry.. it's really annoying to have to do that by hand sometimes, especially
because of the above complaint)
* the font & scrolling text are annoying, i also dislike not being able to have any control
in the conversations
* it seems that sometimes you have to press escape, sometimes space, and sometimes
right mouse button to skip animations etc.? maybe i'm on drugs or something, maybe
it's me, but could this be made somewhat more consistant?
* why does the main character look like he just escaped from a leather SM party??
Yea i know, a lot of complaints, i like the game, but there are a lot of things that need
to be fixed imho...

I think your whining to much. Alot of those problems you mentiond I've never encounterd.

But that doesn't mean that they don't exist.
To original poster:
A lot of video problems. Did you try to update to the latest video drivers? What card, driver revision and OS do you have?
About "leather SM party" - LOL
And, yes the physics and clipping needs fixing badly!
(The autosave/quicksave is no supposed to implemented and the crashing reduces, so the complaints are valid, but not for the final game ;)
About crashes: How much space for the swap file do you have? Try to increase it, that helps!
About inventory:
The "random shuffle" was suggested, and/or rotating things (like a sword to have it fit sideways).
But I thing the most important (and easy) fix would be to have the ability to "swap" things that are in your hand and in the inventory. If you inventory is (nearly or entirely) full, it is annoying that you have first to drop something to the ground, then you can add the other thing to your inventory.
It would be much easier if the game just "swapped" the thing glued to your cursor with the thing you click on in the inventory.

Glorofin, you're the one who's whining, i'm just saying what i think should or could be improved on.
which reminds me i forgot to add:
* sometimes you first see the level, and a second later all the models etc. appear
this is ugly, either the level shouldn't be shown untill the models are drawn or the
models should be drawn right away
I have the latest video drivers and these are my system specs:
Athlon 800
512 mb memory
40 gig HD (with some 10gig free, thus no memory problems)
Geforce1 DDR
SB Live
I actually have gamedev experience, i worked for a game company before,
and in my spare time i work on my own engine with a group of people.
So i know what i'm talking about.
The things i've seen there, and the things i'm seeing in games that are released at
this moment or in the near future are, from a graphics point of view, lightyears
ahead of ARX (on some points anyway)
So that's why i'm giving this criticism..
And you can argue about graphics not being important all you like,
but that's what sells
the game

Uhoh ;) What are the "latest" drivers ;)
Cheers,

You should get Geforce 4.
