Arx Fatalis has alot going for it but voice talent isn't one of them. Is it just me or does that dude in the pub sound just like the scarecrow from the wizard of OZ? And alot of the other characters are just weird like Russian Goblins? Thoughts?
Moderator note: I'm moving this thread to the Arx & Underworld forum as these sorts of discussions usually take place there.

Personally speaking, I wouldn't rate the voice-acting as the "Worst Voice Acting Ever?", but I would agree that some of it was very lousy. Am Shaggar's voice was rea
On the other hand, I really loved some of the other voices. The Sister's voices were rather sinister sounding, somewhat reminiscent of one of those creatures off Dr Who. The goblins voices were also terrific.

Um, honestly very few games have what I would call talented voice actors. There are a few standouts (Vice City, Thief, Grim Fandango, and the N.O.L.F. series to name a few), though IMHO, most are phoned in (XIII), cheesy (FarCry, Gothic), and just lacking talent (too many to mention).
I just chalked up the VA in Arx to part of it's charm. It's an all-around quirky game, and in some strange way I couldn't picture it sounding any other way than it does.

I agree it is kinda a quirky game, it just that it take a little away from the enviromental effects and the mood.
The best games for voice acting are(without a doubt) System Shock 1-2, Knights of the Old Republic 1 and (maybe) 2, Manhunt (Starkweather is nuts) and I kinda liked Fable and Jade Empire

Agreed that precious few games feature good acting. Mind you, a great deal of the time this is at least partially due to dreadful writing and direction.

Yes, well, that's a slightly broad statement there. I rate the acting in a game like Grim Fandango
far higher than System Shock 2, for instance. There's some really good acting in both SS games, but then there's also some really bad acting.

I'd probably rate Knights of the Old Republic as my favourite. Vampire Bloodlines was rather excellent as well.
Biohazard on 3/3/2006 at 20:16
Anachronox had excellent voice acting.

Agreed, those were ace. I have to say, Thief Deadly Shadows has the Best VA ever. Invisible. War was nice also.

Allo?! The Longest Journey, anyone?

So far, so not bad with Arx Fatalis (I've just started the game). I've heard much worse - in Syberia, for example.
The most memorable / best voice acting I have experienced with an RPG was in the No One Lives Forever series (NOLF & NOLF 2: A Spy in HARM's Way). It was humorous and entertaining, and there is some interesting background banter (and singing!) if you stop to listen...
