srry about the title
but, yeah, i'm only making my way through some crazy mines above the goblin camp(wait...it's ALL mines!!??!?!), but i'm hooked already. really atmospheric, arx 2 will rock, as will other games from JoWood. i can see all these inpirations, UU mostly, but some thief and just in general the spirit of Looking Glass games. my only complaint is that the interface is a little bit clunky, but that's easily overcome (deus ex, anyone?)

Arx has been sat on my shelf for over a year waiting until I upgraded my system. I just got a 3GHz Athlon with a 256Mb Radeon 9800 (my Thief III computer!) before xmas and I've mostly been playing Arx (and H&D2, but not Freedom Force as I can't get the b'stad to work :o( nor can I find any help anywhere).

the Underworld feel to everything
the Thiefy stealth icon
Backstabs with the bow while hiding in shadows :o)
the initiative (aiming time) system for weapons
the spell casting system
One Question:
I don't appear to be able to open any of the trap doors on levels 1-3. Are they all locked and my technical skills just ain't up to picking it? Or do you need Strength to pull them open? Or are they just scenery?

As for Arx, Arkane is a new developer, the game is rough in many ways. I expect that Arx 2, assuming it isn't mutilated by the publishers and corporate visionaries like some recent games *cough*DX2*cough*, will be smoothed out and a prime title.

I'm getting a bit tired of this. All opinions on the Underworld and Arx games are welcomed (preferably attached to somewhat reasoned arguments), but personal insults are not. Settle down, both of you.
Having said that... sammy22, I hope you realise that your initial outburst of extreme and repetitious distain towards Arx in about a half-dozen different threads (something akin to cramming your opinion down everyone's throat) was bound to provoke ill feeling from some people. You may have a BA Hons, but that was simply not a smart thing to do by any measure. You really shouldn't be surprised by the reaction. Even if you have "contribruted more to this forum than most over the last couple of months" (to reply to another thread at the same time), I suspect you'll find that those initial posts of yours will spring to people's minds far more readily than any subsequent discussion when they think about your contribution to the forum. I'm sure that you'll remedy that in time, though.
