You're assuming the local college (University of Arkansas in my case) doesn't also play Lynyrd Skynyrd and Lincoln Park all day long. :(

I dunno, usually college radio is pretty diverse. You'll have a few guys who play classic rock or top-40 alternative or whatever, but then you'll have a 4 hour show of bagpipe music. Regardless of what they're playing it's still better than supporting the payola system.
