I want to lose myself in a good book, preferably something to do with pirates. I'd prefer something a bit more surreal and/or dark but I'm open to all suggestions. I might as well leave room for fantasy/sci-fi suggestions as well as I'm just now finishing A Song of Ice and Fire. Halp, any ideas?
Oh and it must be pinku.

I finished The Resurrectionist a few months ago. Stephen King's Cell was a good book too.

You could try "A High Wind in Jamaica," by Anthony Hughes. Kind of old, but considered a classic. It's about some children who are kidnapped by pirates and the relationship that develops between the two groups. Like "Treasure Island" meets "Lord of the Flies." It's not a kids book. It was made into a movie with Anthony Quinn, and was considered shocking at the time.

I read Mutiny on the Bounty a few years ago, and it was still an enjoyable read. You could probably easily find passages online to see if it doesn't bore you to tears.

Can I ask what you thought of ASoIaF, Alchemist?
I've heard lots of conflicting thoughts, some say it's a work of genius, best fantasy ever, others say it's just a load of crap full of pervy rape fantasies. I'd like to get some more considered opinions before I plunge in to such a large series.

It's a work of epic fantasy soap opera moderately full of pervy rape fantasies.
Whether that's "genius" or "crap" is up to you. I lean toward the former, but the dude is going to die before he finishes writing the thing so try not to get too attached :(

Ian banks has written a totally kickass sequence of Sci-fi novels, including one (forget the title) with SOLIPSISTIC pirates (!) Who could ask for anything more ????
Just read them all from the beginning. You won't be sorry.:ebil:
