Arkane's next game. It's not Arx 2. It's Might & Magic. - by Digital Nightfall

It looks like the combat will rely more on the player's reflexes after all.

the Arx core team, along with Purah, Mike Ryan
No exaggeration, they're my two favourite DromEd designers ever. Sounds very promising.

Well, they don't mention RPG, so it sound to me like Arkane's going for the money and developing a straight up fantasy based action fps that will be out on all platforms. Just my bet.

I'll take that bet, CandyStick :) I have faith in the RPGness, so I'm guessing that you'll be pleasently surprised.

I've never played any games in the M&M or Arx series (except for a demo of HOM&M 2) but wasn't the MM series first person to begin with, like Wizardry and Bard's Tale?
EDIT: These guys seem to compulsively exaggerate the ground breaking nature of their games. Arkane Studios claims that Arx Fatalis is "the first real RPG combining a real intriguing story, a deep environment, a high level of interactivity, combined in a user friendly interface". Now Dark Might & Magic is "the world’s first fantasy action game to feature a complete first-person combat system". Someone needs to give these people a lecture on humility. And recognizing stuff that has already happened many times previously.

I disagree Pan. What was said about Arx fits perfectly with what Arx is.

It was an intriguing story, the environment was immense and "deep" (because it was underground ;). It was decently interactive... most items could be manipulated and changed... flour + water = dough, dough + fire = bread. And the interface was friendly, Mouse Gestures were well designed and innovative for a spell casting system. Now that said. Ultima 7, which has a good number of those traits did not have a very friendly interface in my opinion. Arx could be the first real RPG blah blah blah. I hope you see my point.
As for Dark MM. I expect their combat system to be more "complete" than games like Morrowind. Whose was complete albeit it was not so fantastic.
I expect much for this M&M :)

Man, was that a huge let down. I feel extremely disappointed as I was actually looking forward to another Arx game as well. :p :(

As far as I know, it's not the developer who writes the press releases but the publisher's PR department. And Arx and Messiah surely are not the only games to have ridiculous press releases.
Digital Nightfall on 11/8/2005 at 22:42
You won't feel that way for long, Nedan.

This is some STONKINGLY exciting news. Heavy LG/Thief designer presence on a big budget Arkane Studios game in a decent RPG world (M&M). And those great Thief style sound atmospherics are gunna return, too!
Keep the updates coming.
