You sure he didn't get eaten by rats?
Positive, I put him/her on his/her own bed and he/she was in a very, very, secured area (ahem, trying not to spoil), everyone else was on top of chandeliers, which is one of the best places to put someone sleeping ever (can't wait till they wake up after a few hours heh). I used the fix I posted and I'll try and see what happens. I don't plan ongoing full commando on any map (did it the first time around) so I wonder if I'll get the same bug again.

I ask because I read the game was short, but judging by the first real mission (which I haven't finished yet), it's not short at all.
Whoever started the "game is too short" thing was either passing out from too many shrooms while he was playing or he played it like half-life and ran through it lynching everything. If you actually take the time to do side missions, explore, find stuff (not saying you go over your head with exploring every nook, just walk down this street and that) it certainly takes about say 12 hours? I finished it in about that much and I was playing it mostly as a shooter.
Also, the missions are fairly big, with at least one side mission to most of them. Likewise if you go the nonlethal way, they play out slightly different then the easy way of putting a bolt through your targets head, or going full front pistol fighting.

If you put them really high up, it's possible gravity took hold of them, and they fell to their death. I've seen that happen once or twice.

The first real mission is probably the largest, both in actual size and the number of optional objectives. Later missions become more streamlined. And there are only 8 missions in total, not including the training mission. So I would argue it could've been longer.

That didn't really happen, but even so, what about the main target and the assassination message? Not to mention I did have one or two people on tables that disappeared as well. It probably had to do with the number of bodies limitation... probably. Will have to check on it on my next run.

I'm only at the Golden Cat mission so far, just a question: is there a way to avoid the assassin ambush outside the distillery? I mean avoid it without knowing in advance that they going to appear. They kicked my ass big time, took me about five tries to take them down.

Yeah. If you're keen eyed, and probably using dark vision, you can see them before they spot you. Head up, take out the one in the building on the left side of the street, dart the guy on the balcony across the street, then nail the third dude on the low rooftop. More likely if you're keeping to the rooftops and such, but if you're sneaking, should be doing that anyway.
Edit: Quick plot question. What was the moral/political reason for killing lady Boyle? I can't remember more then "She was the spymaster's girlfriend", which seems like a pretty douchey reason.

Malleus, I got ambushed there too. Best way is to just head straight and get up on the pipes and the rooftops and then make your way to the assassins through the apartment that's above where that scavenger guy was.

I decided I'm gonna stick with how it happened and not gonna reload this just to go around get the drop on them - I ran into them the first time and that's how it is (even though I had to reload to survive) - I'll just be more vigilant next time.

She was providing funds for the regent. I'm not sure how one wealthy noble can provide more than the city's coffers, but that was the main reason for marking her.:edit:
A question of my own: Does killing the assassins that attack the empress stop you from getting the Clean Hands achievement?

Does anyone know if it is possible to play Dishonored in Windows XP?
I know some people have answered your question already, but I wanted to jump in and say that I am playing in Windows XP myself (I bought it on Steam) and I'm not having any issues.
