Have been playing for two hours now. Still in the first level..training... have reloaded a few times when I was forced to fight, trying to sneak the whole thing, though I have choked everyone out and even took one guys head clean off, lol.
The thing is, you kill and more rats appear, and you do NOT want a lot of rats. <spoil alert lol
So once I ran into Garrett I decided it was time to come post. Yup, that's GOTTA be Stephen Russel voicing your contact.
The halflife 2 art director was the art director and the first level starts off in a very similar manner. So far this game just seems to be oozing Thief/Bioshock/Halflife2. And I'm talking the best parts of each.
The control/hud customizing is awesome. It feels like having a Darkmod hud. Don't want health bar, turn it off, want it on ONLY when something effects it, OK. On all the time, sure thing.
Loot glint isn't loot glint like T3, it has the same glowy feel but is yellow not blue. But it's not glint, it's just highlight when you look at it. Don't like it? Turn it off.
--edit, OK, there is loot glint, I hadsn't noticed before but it isn't very noticeable, can't be turned off. Frob highlight can be.
Art is beautiful, sounds are emersive, got some funny guard lines (very thief like)...
Enough gloating, I gotta get back in game.
Oh, one other thing. I think most people here can agree that Darkmod has pretty good mantleing. Hate to say it, but mantling in this game makes TDM mantle seem laborious.
The movement in this game is SMOOTH.
You can even turn on auto aim, but put it at 10% so it only aims if you are almost on the money anyway.
-------
There are 'load zones'. I was chased to the first one and didn't go back through, so I imagine they were still pissed (like T3) but it was a door, not a glowing hallway.
So good placement at least.
But loading and reloading is like 3-5 seconds.

Not being able to sheath IS weird, they need to patch that
-EDIT
You can sheath, you have to hold action (f) down for 2 seconds.Sweet!

I bet you US players will have finished this by the time we get to play it in the UK.

I hate not being able to holster my weapons.
EDIT: So in fact I don't hate much. Oh sweet game.
Got the feeling it's going to happen to a lot of people. It's not really obvious is it?
I agree with most of your points. The frob highlight isn't problematic and is probably a necessary evil in such a detailed environment.
I'm only two missions in (had to get some sleep around 4 in the morning), and I'm totally hooked. Among the nitpicks, I'm not always fond of that disproportioned Bioshock aesthetic that make objects much bigger than they should be. Especially with a lack of variation in the loot items (even though it's not the primary gameplay mechanic, it's still jarring). And who thought that making an ugly, gigantic, octogonal tin can of whale meat the most common food was a good idea?

You all have too much money and I hate you.
How many missions are there exactly? There's probably a few vaguely defined, but roughly is fine.
There's much debate about length or how many "hours" it is (a stupid metric, I know). They sound like pretty complicated Thief style missions so I think a count would give a Thief fan a good idea anyway.
Briareos H on 9/10/2012 at 09:34
I don't know how many missions there are in total, but I can tell you this: the tutorial mission took me a bit more than one hour, and I felt I hadn't explored everything. Knowing the enemy placement and very simple layout of the whole level, I'd say it's possible to finish it in less than ten minutes when going guns blazing.
So if you read reports of people going through Dishonored in any amount of time between 6 and 25 hours, they probably say the truth.

I don't think it would have occurred to me to even want to blaze through that fast. Look at this world around you! I'd be much too eager to want to explore a lot of it.

I don't see any spoilers in there, unless you mean pointing out who one of the voiceactors are? Anyway the guy clearly states that he's started playing it. Just don't read any further if you're worried about having even minor details spoiled.

I've been (
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=494894) reading some discussion, where someone has reported that Dishonored is playable somewhat below the so-called minimum PC requirements that Bethesda gave out. (I always called bullshit on those min. specs, simply because they were too close to the recommended specs.)
Here are Bethesda's minimum specs again, just for the record:
OS: Windows Vista / Windows 7
Processor: 3.0 GHz dual core or better
Memory: 3 GB system RAM
Hard Disk Space: 9 GB
Video Card: DirectX 9 compatible with 512 MB video RAM or better (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 / ATI Radeon HD 5850)
Sound: Windows compatible sound cardSomeone ran the game on his laptop with the following specs:
CPU: Core i5 2430M@2.6GHz
GPU: Nvidia GT 540M
Memory: 8 GBThe integrated mobile video is well below the minimum spec, and the i5-2430M is a dual core CPU also slightly below Bethesda's quoted minimum. But this person was able to run the game at 1366x768 with all graphics options high (except rat shadows), and FXAA on, getting 30-40 FPS on average.
Since the game is still playable with such a relatively weak GPU (compared to the GTX 460 asked for in the minimum spec.), and the GPU is probably the most important to the game's performance: I'm betting that meeting or being just slightly below the rest of the specs will also pan out for other people. I'm guessing that the amount of system and video RAM are the only places where you can't skimp out.
P.S. The discussion topic I linked above, also mentions tweaks that can be done to the game's .ini files, allowing the FOV to be set higher and to also increase the game's difficulty even further.

I've been looking forward to this game to the point that I have avoided learning too much about the game so as not to spoil the impact. As such I have skimmed this thread from time to time but realise now that it will soon be spoiler city.
Although I am excited about this game, it won't be a day one purchase at this stage as I can't spare the time at the moment. Furthermore, I've got a rule about not buying any game over $50.
