For example, "People would just walk around," Arkane's Julien Roby told Games.On.Net. "They didn't even go upstairs because a guard told them they couldn't. They'd say 'Okay, I can't go upstairs.'"
It's like I've been shot in the stomach, but no blood comes out.

And they think I'm crazy for bitching about how people these days are sheep.

I think the problem is that a lot of triple-A games these days do in fact not let you think outside the box. They place invisible walls wherever you're not supposed to go and slam you with a "Game Over. You were not supposed to do that!"-screen whenever you do something that's not within the parameters of the story. People have come to expect this so they play the game the way they think the game is meant to be played. It has nothing to do with being a "sheep". A game is not real life after all, so when a guy tells you to not go upstairs you really have no idea what's going to happen if you try. It's more about guessing what the devs had in mind when they made the game than trying to apply real life logic to it.

Well...hell, it isn't just that though. I've had problems trying to play co-op with people in Borderlands 2. For example, they ask things like "Where do I go now?" "Where are you?". It is ON THE FUCKING MAP! Just because the environment isn't closed corridor confuses them....they're so dumbed down that they're incapable of even thinking things like "Maybe I should look at my map to figure out how to get there".
Hell, I've even been unsuccessful trying to get people to play portal. The fact that they actually have to figure out their own solution to the puzzles rather than being told exactly where to place each portal is more than they can handle.

. Even then though. You have to look at it in context. People SHOULD have enough common sense to ask why kind of game they're playing? Corridor shooter? its probably going to be just linear. A more open world game? Then you are probably going to be expected to figure out your own way to reach each objective. All you have to do is stop and THINK for a few seconds and these things become obvious.

I bet you're a lot of fun to play co-op with.

Maybe. I slogged through Bioshock, but after the experience, never bought BS 2, and am still very sceptical about BS: Infinite. And I quit HL2/EP2 somewhere halfway through out of not caring anymore about largely being a spectator in a thoroughly controlled experience.
Glad it is not just me. I remember liking Bioshock enough when I first played it and bought BS2 on the strength of that, but a couple of years back I tried to re-play BS1 but couldn't be bothered and have yet to touch the sequel. Likewise, I have yet to finish HL2-2.

HL2 Ep2 is far superior to Ep1 btw.

I agree, but for whatever reason, I got the part where you're about to start fighting striders with sticky mines and realised I couldn't be bothered. I will probably finish it up at some point. I think Ep1 maybe benefited from being shorter, hence why I finished it.

Sorry, but portal 2 is the best co-op game ever.
