[...]their tendency towards make Looking Glass style games.
Like kill-everything-that-moves-Dark-Messiah or stab-everything-that-moves-Dishonored (from the looks of the first trailer)? Sorry for using this/you as a peg but I was seriously worried when all those first ingame sequences were about lots of blood and unnecessary violence. It might have taken a completely different direction since which I missed but it didn't appeal to me last time despite the great scenery. Even less did it remind me of something like Thief. :erg:

If you'd actually care to do a little actual reading, you'd find that Dishonored is completable without having to kill anyone. If you also just clicked back through this thread and found an interview or two, you'd be able to find out why people are comparing Arkane's approach with Dishonored to the LGS school of design.
This isn't to say that Dishonored is going to live up to Thief; I don't know that, you don't know that, and none of us will until the game's released. And even then, I doubt Thief is a fair baseline to compare it to when it clearly is drawing upon a pool of different influences, and not all of them being slow, stealthy first person sneakers - which, by the way, were not the only type of game that LGS and its alumni made.

I didn't realize that Looking Glass's entire game catalog consisted of Thief. Or are you telling me you ghosted the Ultima Underworld and System Shock games?

Thief cultists are even worse than Radiohead or Muse fans and that's saying a fucking lot.

Actually I think we can see pretty much exactly what the game is going to be like. We have two videos out now showing a completely walkthrough of an entire level -- granted more like a speedrun not soaking up all the readables and conversations and nooks & crannies and whatnot -- but I think we know exactly what the game is going to be like from them. I'm sure they'll tweak a few gameplay elements, and of course there will be the story & more levels & bad guys we haven't seen; but I'm thinking what we've seen is pretty much what we'll get. It's fast-paced sneaking with some special powers & abilities.

I'm kind of surprised that someone on TTLG wouldn't be familiar with Arkane, what with David working for them
Just a nitpick, but it's
Dan who's working for them, not David.
I'm also not expecting it to be a Thief clone. From the gameplay videos it looks like it offers opportunities to make you think about how to accomplish goals, rewards experimentation and attempts to create a credible world. That is what appealed to me the most compared with similar LGS games* and if Dishonored captures it then I'll be very happy.
* I'm making the rash assumption that Dishonored won't allow you to play a round of golf or attempt to simulate flying a plane.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't really think that's nitpicking. :p Big difference between those two.
Also, another TTLG user, Purah (Calendra's Legacy) is working there as well - he's been there for several years now.

Nitpick because I suspect it was a slip of the fingers and not that Jason honestly believes that David is working for Arkane.

Yeah, I dunno what I was thinking. I meant Digi not David.
