I don't remember every level, but I do remember for Dishonored, if I got spotted by a guy it's usually not a problem to just kill him, and even if other guards run in I'll at least try to fight my way out or just run ... especially the first half when there weren't as many guard swarms, I'd definitely just do that. That's different from Thief & Dark Mod where if you're spotted you're pretty screwed if you can't run even if it's just 1 or 2 guards.
There were only IIRC 2-3 places where I spam reloaded later on, because I wanted a perfect run -- well no, remembering it more now, I take that back; I didn't spam reload. Now I'm remembering those were usually places swarming with guards (or a particular damn spitting plant) so if you got caught you were pretty much dog meat, so I'd fight a bit, let myself be killed & it'd reload itself. It just happened a lot because it was a hard spot.
But then I might feel like, ok I've already restarted this 6 times because I got killed, so now if I'm just seen this time I'm tempted to just reload it anyway because I'll be damned but I'm going to get a perfect run before I'm done with this place. But then in the next area it'd be back to normal.

Word. I don't get people who commit to one playstyle and the quickload as soon as things don't go as they planned, instead of just letting events unfold organically and dealing with the consequences of their mistakes. Moderating your own experience that heavily seems neither fun nor immersive to me.
I played it thrice - once as you described, once as a no-kill ghost, and once as a bloodbath. It was equally fun all 3 ways, but the third time went by super fast since I knew the levels and slaughtering everyone with watchtowers, arc pylons, walls of light and swarms of rats allows you to power through it pretty fast. I see merit to both approaches.

Hmm, ok. :erg:
I mean I guess I can see why someone would play that way. Sounds like you get more satisfaction out of solving "the puzzle" of a clean playthrough than you get out of immersing yourself in the world.
Henke, this is completely unrelated to Dishonored, but I came across an old thread where we had a spat 12 years ago. Where did the time go!
For laughs:

Everyone in that thread must live with the shame of having participated in that thread.

The funny part is, by then we thought we'd seen the worst of it. But then System of a Down.

Hahaha oh man. Nu metal = serious business. :D

I tend to hit the quickload key when my foul-ups result in what seems like every guard in the level rushing to my area and escape is impossible. Usually I'll die, necessitating a reload anyway. But when I survive it usually involves depopulating a lot of the level and that makes one the funnest parts of the game, sneaking around, rather moot. I don't find sneaking around an empty level fun at all, frankly.

Due to cheapskateness, I am late to the party with this game. But I absolutely love it like so many of you do. On my first run through, basically killing everything in sight (including every last rat) just so I can spend time checking out the maps, reading texts, and gathering loot, bone charms, runes.
Feels like that old Thief experience for sure. Still hiding and waiting for guard patterns, just killing them instead of choking them out. I have to admit I felt guilty when Pendleton was disappointed in me for being so bloodthirsty.
Definitely will retry as ghosty as possible.

How are people getting trapped and having difficulty escaping in Dishonored? No matter how bad the situation, I found I was never more than a few blinks away from safety. The walkers are a bit more annoying with their spotlights and ranged weapons, but there are lots of places they can't go.

Thanks for dredging up all those horrible memories I spent years suppressing, you bastard.
