The "gun sights" on the Palin map aren't. They're GIS(geographical information system) software location symbols. The reticle of a rifle scope would not extend beyond the circle. They do vaguely look like the reticle of a rifle scope to people unfamiliar with firearms. I think Palin's aide said they weren't intended to be gun sights. Whatever the intent, it was bad judgment to use them.

Other than the fact that plain dots would do, Palin unintentionally contradicted her aide:

She's been told to knock off the gun metaphors for quite awhile, now. No, she's not responsible, and she is irresponsible. While many saw something like this coming, it's now being used for more inanity.
reload aim salvo fight
Yes, these are metaphors, but the militant right and the radical left are ignored more than they should be, and the rational and reasonable are flanked. Look at how many people come out in times of anger and distress: More than one realized were there.

That about sums it up.

The connection between marijuana and schizophrenia is both controversial and complicated. The raw association is strong:
* Schizophrenics are twice as likely to smoke marijuana as non-schizophrenics.
* People who smoke marijuana are twice as likely to develop schizophrenia as those who do not smoke.
But is correlation causation?
Increasingly experts seem to be saying: “Yes.”
Kolya on 10/1/2011 at 16:45
The mistake here is the automatic linking of mental diseases with violent behaviour. Not the fact that smoking pot increases your chances for a nice fat psychosis. Which it does.
Also applying statistical evidence to an individual case is not a sign of an integer argumentation.

Part of it is.
One of the theories is that they start to self medicate with marijuana long before the illness reaches a level that needs medical input. If that's the case then you can't say it's causative at all and tbh there are so many other things that schizophrenics do (that non-schizophrenics won't) that are correlated. Smoking, for example, is much more prevalent in schizophrenics (and people with mood disorders) but no one is going to say that it's causative are they?
