God if they bring back midichlorians I'm not sure I'll stay onboard

Maybe, but what's the deal with her waiting for family and that flashback? And the casting choice - compare her to Anakin's mother. Can that be a coincidence?
Ren was really disappointing when he took his helmet off. At first. But I thought it all came together fine. The trailers made him seem like a Darth Maul clone, which would have been really boring.

Ren's essentially a teenage Vader fanboy who was disowned by his folks for falling in with the goth crowd. That isn't a terribly disappointing premise, but he's played like a spoiled brat throwing temper tantrums who needs a few hundred spankings to get with the program.
That's enough material for a TV sitcom spin-off, now that I think about it.

Rey was a really strong lead. That actress owned the role, even though she was a little too perfect all the time.
Too perfect is right. And too badass. For me, she was less interesting and less believable than the other main characters in the film.

Finally - one aspect of this that really jars with me is the fact that everything done in Ep 4-6 was for nothing. Han is still a wideboy, The First Order/Empire is still massively powerful, there is still a Rebel Alliance/Resistance. WTF changed? What was it all for? The trailers made it look like the First Order was just a remnant - I thought they would essentially be rebels, not the other way around, again.
The good guys have to be the underdogs, otherwise the whole thing doesn't work.

Leaving aside any extended universe nonsense from the books or comics or cartoons or whatever, in the prequels we're lead to believe that Stormtroopers are all Jango Fett clones (which was one of the only cool things about those horrible films).
And in this new one Kylo has a go General Hux for not using clones at one point so presumably they do use clones.
I agree, it would have been better if they stuck with stormtroopers = clones as in Ep 2 & 3. It was a good concept. And stormtroopers have always been anonymous cannon fodder throughout the first 6 films. They work fine to fill out action scenes. They didn't need to be humanized. And Finn could have still been a turncoat without being a stormtrooper.

His conversion is a bit more believable this way. If he's going to be Han and Leia's son, he needs to have some depth. And Anakin was a bit of a spoiled brat too, wasn't he? The last thing we needed was another Darth Maul, who was the most boring villain of all the films.

Not at all. The First Order could have been portrayed as a growing power. They didn't need to be so powerful.
Look at the X-Men (or any superhero film). The bad guys are usually the underdog. We already had a powerful Empire, no need for a re-hash of it.
And I liked Ren's temper going off like that. Gives him room to grow.

Are the good guys really the underdogs though? The impression I get* is the First Order is a radicalized splinter group of a much weakened Empire.
The New Republic lost its temporary capital but as a military force has not been destroyed. Things are just more "even" between the two groups now.
*haven't seen the movie yet.

Hear all of what you're saying about Kylo Ren being an emo teenager and that's what makes this so perfect: (

Which is why none of the stormtroopers had Jango Fett's voice. Then again, there are so many continuity errors made in the prequel films who the fuck knows. Also, I'm not sure what was "cool" about 2/3 of the prequel trilogy being about a war between robots and disposable people. I guess if you hate any sort of dramatic tension and just want to see a bunch of shit blowing up it's great.

I'm pretty sure that's just Kylo having a massive sith hardon. Or maybe JJ just wanted to throw a reference in there to piss off everyone who would rather that the new continuity completely ignore those shitty movies.

I don't know. You'd better ask someone who thinks its cool and try to find out.
Don't ask me though, because I never said that.

Possibly. I got the impression that some of the Stormtroopes were and some weren't. Or that the older ones were and they'd started using non-clones that he considered inferior. If they had no clone troopers at all it'd be an odd thing to say.

Extremely weak 1D villains waiting to be steamrolled by the bumbling good guys. Kylo Ren is fan fiction bad. The fans hated Hayden Christonson for being an emo git, but they're embracing this guy? Han went out not with a roar, but a whimper. Wtf.
The CG characters were awful. Prequel tier awful - especially Maz and Snoke. Absolutely no reason Serkis couldn't have played the guy in the flesh. Instead we got CG Lord Voldmort.
8 X-Wings vs a military base manned by an entire army?
Not sure why this movie is receiving so much praise. I'd go as far as to say it was a C at best.
