I'm not sure why you think lazy writing automatically implies narcissism as opposed to just ineptitude, but ok.

No. Two separate problems both fully present in TFA. Lazy writing leads to loads of cliches and rehashing old plot devices, narcissists write characters that are good at everything despite having no training or experience.
I don't say that idly. Narcissists have established writing patterns that can be spotted if you know what to look for. One of those is that since the narcissist wants to be perceived as perfect, they tend to write characters who are "perfect" with no character flaws and capable of doing everything that comes their way perfectly. Both Rey and Abram's Captain Kirk fit that bill.
edit: That's also why so many mainstream Hollywood protagonists are Gary Stu's and Mary Sues and you often find better films made by independents.

It's possible that the people who write those characters are narcissists, sure. It's also possible that they're just lazy / poor writers who don't understand how to write a realistic character.
In any case, JJ Abrams is terrible and I'm glad Rian Johnson is writing the sequels and directing the next one. His work isn't always good, but it's always interesting.

Armchair psychoanalysis is wonderful, especially when you're able to pick apart someone's entire personality by virtue of their writing alone. Never mind that Lawrence Kasdan, who has half of the writing credits for TFA, also wrote The Empire Strikes Back, which has none of the hallmarks of a 'Gary Stu' protagonist.
If I were to analyse you solely from your posts, TT, I'd have to draw the uncomfortable conclusion that you're a disturbed paranoiac with a propensity to prop up his lack of experience with talking to actual people and/or inability to apply logical inference with random video and book citations. But I wouldn't do that, because logic dictates there's more to you than your internet shitposts, for better or ill.
Of course, you're not going to understand any of this and will probably launch into a random 'XYZ is a flaming narcissist, here are five links' campaign in the very next post to get us to groan collectively yet again, if armchair psychonalysing has anything to say about it.

IMO it's still ok to psychoanalyze Lucas based on the awful shit he put together for the prequel trilogy.

I think the surest sign of a narcissist would be someone who breaks up a Star Wars thread to talk about how well versed they are in spotting narcissists.

Thank you for that. Abrams leaving is the only reason that I'm interested in seeing the next one. We're much less likely to get another shitty but big budget fan movie with him gone.

Wrong. First off we're talking about something very subjective here, so showing that some random person on the internet agrees with me is irrelevant. Second I don't need links. It's common knowledge that most fan fiction writers are flaming idiots who write self-insert, narcissism service characters. That's why calling almost every JJ Abrams protagonist a Marty Stu/Mary sue is appropriate: they're the kind of shitty characters that show up in fan fics.
Links don't help me here. We're not talking about basic, easily verifiable, objective information (e.g. "The US government snoops on your email") that I can easily prove with a good citation.

Interestingly enough, you know why the original trilogies were so good? Because George Lucas had not yet attained "legend" status so people were still willing to challenge him on his stupidest ideas. With the prequels not only was Lucas's ego death-star sized compared to before but nobody dared disagree with any suggestion he had because he was (inaccurately) given sole credit for everything that went right with the first three movies.

After nearly a year of nothing but "When's Plinkett gonna review Episode VII?", Plinkett reviews Episode VII.
First he reviews the current state of the Star Wars franchise and its place in our present culture.

I'm 40 minutes in and he's still making fun of internet film criticism. This is goddamn amazing.
Tony_Tarantula on 3/10/2016 at 02:34
A lot of stupid, nostalgia rooted criticism doesn't make the film any less shit. Looking back almost a year later most of the film's key moments make so little sense that they're cringe worthy. Michael Bay could almost have made a better Star Wars film.
