This is the first Star Wars movie that's resulted in a "meh I'll just download it" from me. I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan, so this is a big deal. That said The Last Jedi kinda ruined it for me.

New trailer looks better than the old one, but still, I don't know man. This thing is gonna have to get some good reviews if it wants to put THIS BUTT *indicates own butt* in a theater seat.
But what about the skillfully crafted cliffhanger at the end?...You're going to have to see it to find out if Chewy lives.

Yeah, The Last Jedi was a complete travesty...and a canon-killing embarrassment to the franchise.
Solo, looks like shit on a stick.

I bet they've dumbed it down FOR THE MASSES too! They've made it for the new generation of Netflix kids and ignored the real fans, us True Jedi Masters! Woe has befallen me! :( I bet Han Solo can't even jump in the new film!
To be fair, I can't say that I'm too excited about the Solo film either. It doesn't look
bad at all, but it does seem like quite a typical action flick, and I just can't imagine this new guy as the young Han Solo. These are some pretty damn big boots to fill, but who knows, perhaps he succeeds and the film ends up being half decent. I don't get to see too many new films at the movies these days, so maybe I'll go check this out in any case.

Is that better than a blasphemous abomination though, or about the same?
I thought that The Last Jedi was fairly good actually, but the ridiculous Leia Poppins scene was so cringeworthy that it almost ruined the whole experience for me.
P.S. naughty words don't suit you :p

Force projection across half the galaxy, the Leia Poppins + force field bit, Yoda being able to use force powers even though he's a ghost, ships being able to jump inside others to destroy them, ruining Luke Skywalker, the pointless casino bit etc etc. All these just = disappointing movie.
Every bit with Kylo was awesome, but he couldn't hold the movie up by himself, regardless of how good an actor Adam Driver is.

I agree. The only reason why I watched The Last Jedi was to see what happens to Luke, just for the sake of closure to the original trilogy. They had already killed off Han in the previous episode. I had incorrectly assumed Leia was going to die, because Carrie Fisher had passed and couldn't do the next episode. In my mind, the only thing I was curious about was how they were going to close Luke's story. I was disappointed.
Here's what I don't understand about the post-Lucas Star Wars films: They have massive budgets and can afford to hire the best writers in the world. And the films are no longer under the creative control of one person who was deliberately trying to make (most of) them into kiddie films to maximize the merchandising. So in terms of story and plot, why aren't they knocking it out of the park? What kind of moron comes up with the cringe-worthy scenes that are all too frequent in TFA and TLJ, and why aren't there people on the staff empowered to call bullshit when they read the script? I'll bet if you polled all the people walking out of the theater after seeing TLJ, 90% would tell you that the Leia in space scene was cheesy and serves no purpose in the film. How does stuff like that make the final cut?

From what I recall from early previews, nearly all of them focused on the pointless casino bit. If that rebel alliance leader had just said what she was doing then that entire bit wouldn't have happened. Why was it left in? They needed filler.
Filler. In a fucking Star Wars movie. Gah. Even the captain phasma bit was pointless. Practically half the movie could have been cut out and replaced with FAR better stuff that wasn't focused on enough like Rey's training, given us more back story on Snoke, show us properly how the first order went from a few forces (the force awakens) to a massive armada within the space of a week (as the last jedi picks up directly after TFA) etc.
That movie made me really angry. Even the prequels never managed that.

Is there any franchise that hasn't had so much bs added to it after a great one or two movies that is hasn't been ruined?
Marvel Universe is the only one that springs to mind.
henke on 15/4/2018 at 17:42
James Bond? Not that it's been all roses, but some of it's best entries are among the latest ones.
Oh and if Batman counts: Batman. Batman probably doesn't count tho, coz it's not like one continuous franchise so much as indiviual arcs/retellings spread across several decades.

Friday the 13th is another. They didn't mess those up until the 8th one. "Jason Takes Manhattan". Horrible movie. Then we got Jason X which was even more terrible. Prior to that, the first 4 movies added new things and more to the overall back story of it all.
My favorite entry is the 4th movie.
If we're only talking of franchises that have many entries but haven't been ruined yet. Hmm. Star Trek (the movies)? The Shatner ones only had 1 bad movie (The Final Frontier). The rest were quite good. The Picard one's didn't have anything terrible, and the Chris Pine movies were all excellent - alright.
The Chucky movies, for another. Their still making new entries in that and still going strong. Though they are very much an acquired taste. If you like horror comedies (eg Evil Dead 2) then their right up your alley, otherwise stay away.
