I do think of the new movies as kind of Star Wars Lite. They are a mixed bag, usually with a minus for every plus, but overall I do like them. They can't begin to touch the originals though.
That said, they're still way better than the prequels.

I failed to mention that Rey out-mind reads him on her first try
The first try is in TFA, and soundly defeats her and extracts the information he wants.

The force doesn't make your body any less vulnerable, or at least it didn't before TFA. It just didn't make any sense to me, and making him get injured also seemed superfluous to the plot

I think TFM may be better than TLJ.

I saw The Last Jedi last weekend and actually thought that it was pretty good! OK, the scene where half-dead Leia was floating through space like Mary Poppins was pretty damn cringeworthy, and the casino city sub-plot with the master codebreaker and the silly horse chase scene felt a bit unnecessary, but apart from those I thought that "The Last Jedi" was quite an enjoyable film. While "The Force Awakens" borrowed a bit too much from the old trilogy and relied way too much on nostalgia, I thought that TLJ found a good balance with the old and the new. I left the movie theater positively surprised.

Finally saw this the other day. Minor quibbles aside, I thought it was excellent. I've read all of the criticisms, and 90% of them are baseless.

I'm beginning to think that by the time this new trilogy is done, I'll only like the original trilogy and:
* Revenge of the Sith (besides the noooooooooo)
* Rogue One
* The Force Awakens
And maybe the Han Solo one depending on how that turns out.
I just don't think that the last jedi did justice to the old cast, created new jedi powers that were just CRAZY and far beyond even the most powerful stuff in the earlier films (not to say that new powers are out of the question) and was just a mixed kinda movie. And it's not just nostalgia at work here (I'll admit there has to be some), as I loved Rogue One. I'd rank it as one of the best Star Wars films after the original trilogy. Bad CGI aside.
Luke deserved a better sendoff than what he got after the prior films + it's giving good fan service to those who have stuck with the show since they were kids. Where as what he got just wasn't. I'm surprised that they didn't re-use any of the extended universe stuff. Grand Admiral Thrawn? COME ON.
The prequels gave us midichlorians (sp?) and this one gave us a new rule about the universe somehow always ensuring that there is balance in the force. So if there is too much of one, then a new jedi/sith shall arise/come about with equal power to that of the other. That's just stupid. That cannot be cannon surely.
