I understand that part, and I know Lucas was influenced by films like The Hidden Fortress for Star Wars.. This just seems a little blatant and out of place, it's an actual Japanese guy with a metal sword.

Maybe it's one of those vibra-swords (or whatever they were called) that showed up in KoToR? I always thought it was cool that there was a more primitive precursor to the lightsaber.

I think he was joking there Einstein.
This looks okay tbh, but that's not a teaser trailer, that's just a trailer.

Nobody ever knows what Manwe is talking about.

I'll probably go see it, but I'm not a big fan of exploring everything that was referenced in the original films. Part of the magic of a good film is having to fill things in with your imagination, and that's one of the reasons why the entire prequel thing, even if it had been well executed, was kind of pointless.
Also, how can anyone continue to ape the Inception trailer music with a straight face. DURRRRRR dooooooof DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR doof doof DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR dooooof doofdoof DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Not sure what's up with the ninja/samurai guy, that seems a bit out of place in the SW universe. The rest looks good though.
This was my reaction as well. Samurai/Ninja guys don't "fit" in the Star Wars universe. Metal sword or wooden staff vs a laser blaster. Hmm, whose going to win. They'd (the samurai/ninjas) have been wiped out entirely in seconds. No question.
Also the notion of Samurai / Ninjas, is very Earth based. Which doesn't feel right to me. Much of the fun to Star Wars is in how alien but yet familiar so much is.

Japanese guy with a metal sword.
Assuming the Rogue One trailer, that looks more like Donnie Yen. Who is Chinese.
icemann on 8/4/2016 at 14:57
Chinese then :p.
Same issue applies. Completely does not fit with Star Wars. If this had been Indiana Jones or some other movie then sure thing. But not Star Wars.
Manwe on 8/4/2016 at 17:17
Oh wow you guys are just thick. The reason they cast Donnie Yen in a movie like this is because he's Chinese and the Chinese market is huge. So they want to tap into that, SO THEY CAST DONNIE YEN! The same reason why every other Hollywood blockbuster in the last 5 years has a third act that takes place in Asia or has a famous Asian actor who suddenly shows up for no apparent reason. The same reason why the two guys from The Raid appeared in TFA for barely 5 seconds in what was the weirdest most out of place scene of the whole movie. It's not because of some highbrow artistic reason. It's just crass commercialism.
