Kylo Ren's lightsaber is growing on me. I think it's because it just looks so fucking shitty, like he cobbled it together out of whatever random shit he found and it's about to fall apart at any moment.

It's still sort of dumb. I believe good crossguard design is making sure your sword doesn't cauterise your own hand by accident during normal combat. Anyway, that JP trailer's actually a bit nicer in terms of overarching structure and pacing, in a way that makes me actually want to see what's going to happen. Colour me cautiously excited.

I'm hoping we don't find the Empire is still the dominant power in the galaxy. At least for me, that would make Endor and ROTJ so anticlimactic.

So I just watched (

Kudos to Andrew Kwan who made this. Good calls on which scenes to keep, and very good editing work I must say. In some places scenes end a bit abruptly, but that's unavoidable considering that the material the guy had to work with was the finished movie, where music and dialogue have already been merged, and fades and transitions are already in place. I think the most impressive parts are the start and the ending.

While I think most of their detailed predictions are wrong, as far as specific plot details go, it's interesting that it seems they're basically re-making the first movie, down to specific shots from the trailers being very similar to shots from the original:

I can't wait for Plinkett's review.
Edit: If I were going to make a fan edit of the prequel movies the only thing I could even think to include is the ending of Episode 3, starting immediately with Anakin already near-dead and about to catch fire and yelling I HATE YOU and Obi-Wan saying "I loved you" and then walking away. Then it would cut to the emperor arriving to pick up Anakin and the credits would roll.

I hated the first two of the prequels so much that I refused to watch the third (refused to give them any more of my money) and have since hated everything Star Wars--including the original trilogy.
This, though, was pretty enjoyable. So, the lesson is, most of the content in Star Wars is unnecessary filler.

I hated Star Wars for so long after loving it so much. The prequels and saturation afterwards ruined it for me.
I want to watch the original, in the ORIGINAL form, with my wife as she hasn't see them. And then I'm going to see this new effort because I must admit I'm a little bit excited!
