I believe the thread title is 'Are You Effing Kidding Me?', not 'What The Everloving Fuck Are You Talking About?'.

Still a better story than Episode I.
So my premonition from the trailer, or maybe it was made obvious enough to be more than that, was that Luke is our man in black taking over his father's role. Does that sound right? But wouldn't that, you know, moot the entire point of the original trilogy, the whole "I'll never join you!" part? Or is that not something we're even supposed to think about anymore?
Visuals are promising at least, I don't even mean in the eye-candy sense, but in the sense of appearing to carry some respectable story-telling along with it.
Edit: I'll also be taking odds on Han taking one for the team & the spirit of Kurtz finally gets to rest in peace with his fabled cathartic death scene of a rogue finally seeing the light. I'm sitting around 40% likely. Well somebody oldschool has to kick it anyway, don't you figure?

The thing with our "man in black" aka Kylo Ren, he's already been in a magazine shoot without the mask on. Cast lists say he's being played by Adam Driver. And in the scenes shown in the various trailers, Kylo Ren looks much taller, and frankly way thinner/more fit than Mark Hamill. But I suppose it could all be some kind of ruse.
That said, they are being very secretive with what Luke's role will be in Ep 7. Red herring maybe. I'm guessing Abrams will throw in a twist, maybe just not the one dema is talking about. It kind of seem like Kylo Ren is our disposible (i.e. will be killed) villain for the new movie - there are reports that Benicio Del Toro will play the villain in Ep 8 and that Andy Serkis is playing the Emperor-type villain.

I think it's pretty clear what will happen, so I'm not sure why everyone's so confused.
Luke will go 129 years back in time to destroy Naboo with red matter, so a certain Gungan is never born and thus can't drive Luke's father into a murderous rage, turning him to the dark side. That said, I'm really excited about the movie and I'll even bring my wife, who only (grudgingly) watched the first 6 movies with me so she knows what I'm talking about when I reference Yoda or something. It'll also be the first time I've watched a Star Wars movie in the cinema (didn't get around to watching the prequels there, though I don't remember why) and just watching the trailer in one (before The Martian) gave me goosebumps. :D

My thoughts on this, and some other people, can't say I figured that out alone (potential spoilers obviously, although still just conjecture at this point):
Kylo Ren and Rey (the pretty girl) are either brother and sister or cousin. They're either Han Solo and Leia's children, or one of them is Han and Leia's and the other is Luke's child. Luke is probably in exile somewhere, Yoda style. Making him the bad guy would be kinda lame and predictable. But if they insist on going that way it would make more sense to make him the sith master pulling the strings. Star Wars has always been about the Skywalker dynasty anyway. As for who of the old timers will die:
I've heard it's gonna be either Han Solo or Chewbacca. So basically Chewbacca as he can't talk and he'd be kinda useless without Han Solo. Maybe the both of them will die to surprise us? Maybe Leia since Carrie Fisher is getting really old and isn't exactly big budget movie material anyway? I guess we'll see but it's gonna be really hard for them to surprise the fans. This is probably gonna be one of the most scrutinized movie of all time. It will be a miracle if people don't figure out the whole thing before it comes out, and if they manage to avoid any leaks.

Btw, you don't need spoilers for theories and guesswork.

Well, they haven't given us much to go on re: the story, and that's the last trailer, so good luck with that. Besides, this isn't a murder mystery. There isn't necessarily anything to "figure out." I tend to think the whole brother/father/sister thing has been played out, in Star Wars and otherwise, but I could be wrong on that.

That's not what I meant. I have absolutely no inside knowledge of anything, and never claimed I did. I'm just going by what I read in various places, articles, comments, forums, fan theories, etc... It's a just a rumour that's been circulating these last few days that "somebody oldschool has to kick it" (Demagogue's words not mine). Obviously Harrison Ford still has much more star power in his old age than Carrie Fisher has ever had in her entire career (at least internationally, dunno about the US), and Chewbacca as a character is very limited since he's just comic relief/decoration, hence my speculation that Han Solo was the least likely to be killed of the three.
But who knows who will be killed, maybe it will be R2 or C3PO, maybe it will be all of them or none of them. It's just speculation at this point, and I thought that's what this thread was about. Otherwise just close it until the movie is released.

The mask will be removed to reveal...
Yoda, who's faked his death: "Surprised you are, motherfucker."
Well if this is planned as the start of a new trilogy, there are 3 movies to come to deal with the old generation. My reasoning for why to expect someone dying is the same reason Star Trek writers wanted Kirk to die in ST Generations. It does a few things. Gives fans closure, helps pass the torch to the next generation, it's easy drama that packs some punch, etc.
So I'd predict it even just based on that kind of thinking, though maybe in a future movie as well.
