I don't know if this has been posted about here yet, but there's also "side movies" in the works. The first one will be called (http://badassdigest.com/2015/04/19/rogue-one-will-be-the-first-star-wars-film-not-focused-on-jedi/) Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, it'll be directed by Godzilla-director (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2284484/) Gareth Edwards, and it'll be a heist movie about the team that steals the Death Star plans that are used by the Rebels in A New Hope. I mean, that sounds pretty cool.

They ought to do a Rosencranz & Guildenstern type of movie of two regular Joes in the deathstar working the late shift when the Millennium Falcon gets pulled in, and they periodically have random encounters with the old movie, but the rest of it is their own story going on right up to the end.

I'm lukewarm on the idea of all these "side" movies. On the upside, there's some potentially cool stories to tell, but I'm hoping the Star Wars franchise won't become the next Fast & Furious.

Better a side story than an origin story IMO. But if they stick to their plans to release one film every year, the franchise is going to get stale pretty quickly.

I'm not really keen on having yearly films, although it's kinda neat that they seem to genuinely want to make the side films unique to each other and the main films stylistically.

Recently, Brethen went all anal retentive over the definition of "recent." He should have stuck with the second link if it bothered him that much.

As far as the yearly films go, could they really be any worse than the EU got to be over the past decade or so? I'm not sure even Georgeman himself would be up to that challenge.
