Are SS1 character sprites available anywhere?

Is there a resource extractor that would let me intelligently extract .BMPs/JPEGs/whatever of the enemy sprite graphics from my CD, or is there a website that contains basic pictures with a solid colour background of the enemies?

Take a look at the texture extractor from (http://tsshp.sourceforge.net/glen/ss1.html) Glen's Pile O' System Shock Junk.
It can extract the sprites, too.

Okay, I think I'll just extract them from the animated GIFs for now, thanks.
