Just curious. I've deleted plenty of my own posts and wondering if it's actually kept somewhere after Dave [or was it GBM?] said that banned users posts are kept away from the public eye.

Moderators can still see the deleted posts, yes. They aren't completely erased, just hidden from public view.

When you delete a post it stays where it is, it just gets "turned off"
The only people who can physically remove entries from the database are Admins - that is to say Me, GBM, MsLedd, Digital Nightfall and Saam.
As for spam threads, they get shifted to a hidden forum, but are still active. This is pretty much so we can discuss the threads and ways of combatting spam.

We all know it's really so you can keep all the free consoles to yourself >:I

I'm planning on building a fort out of them.

Apparently forum idiocy is a matter of PRIVATE RECORD now

At least it's private so better than nothing I guess.

Most deleted posts are not archived. We only keep the truly offensive / banworthy posts separate so that there is something to refer to in case of dispute. And for added amusement if ISPs get complained at (though that hardly ever happens)
In most cases, deleted posts -- whether they are deleted by the poster, a moderator, or an admin -- are just deleted at the source. They are, however, still accessible to listed moderators, and always accessible to admins. That's just a feature of vB3, we didn't hack that in... I assume the idea is to allow moderators the ability to undo accidental deletions, as well as get a better handle on a situation if someone makes an offensive post, deletes it, and then claims nothing happened and they have no idea where the people who have replied to them got that impression.
Basically, deleted posts are deleted posts. Dave and I can still see them as "Post Deleted - click here to view / manage" in a thread, but we figure if they were deleted there's no foul (unless the deletion caused a problem, but even then we're unlikely to say anything). If you knew the number of times Certain People have posted :U and then deleted it, you'd laugh. :D
Banworthy threads tend to get shuffled off to the Gulag for imprisonment or -- in the case of very infrequent "questionable content" -- evaluation as to appropriateness. As it stands now, the Gulag is more or less a reference forum where we can see all the pyramid spam. It's only actually useful once in a while, and it doesn't get used as much as you'd think.
