I was just wondering if someone tech savvy out there could look at a logfile for me and give some advice, but if it's not allowed on this forum, I don't want to post it yet. Is it OK?

Any and all tech related topics have always been welcome here. Topics that involve old things on new systems usually get moved to the Legacy forum, though. Ask away.

Well, I use Kaspersky, Spybot S&D, and MalwareBytes. I uninstalled Norton and TrendMicro a while back, I even used the Norton uninstall tool. However, my HiJackThis log still shows some Symantec stuff. I'd like to delete it; that and some Microsoft Office stuff running too. I was just wondering if someone understood the HiJackThis log stuff and could tell me if it was safe to do so. Most of the crap are DPF items.

I'll have a look at it if you like - though it's been a while since I was doing them non-stop. If you've still got my email then send it there. Or it's in my profile. Symantec can be a bugger to get rid of. And what year was your Norton?

I got it last year, and I think it was supposed to expire this month. It was Norton 360. I'll just post the log here, as long as there are no numbers in the log that gives anything away. I could just put x's there.

Shouldn't be anything in there that will give anything away.
In the meantime, here's a link to manual removal of Norton to get rid of the lurking bits. I've read through it and it seems pretty straightforward and I got the link from one of the recommended tech sites.

I would also go through the Add/Remove programs list to see if there are still any Symantec items showing there.
One thing I have found is that when people finally uninstall norton, they quite often forget things such as removing Symantec Live Update etc etc etc.

You could also do a global FIND?SEARCH from the desktop for Symantec and Norton and remove any that you find.
Then run a registry cleaner to root out left over traces. You might even try a GOOGLE. Select WEB from the front page, on the left select ADVANCED and specify in the various entry lines exactly what you want.
Uninstall, Norton, Symantec and other keywords.
Use MSCONFIG in the START>RUN window and then STARTUP, and uncheck any Norton/Symantec or related that you find.
Reboot and then do the cleanout above.
If you still have Norton in the startup menu, it will try to reestablish itself. And it hides traces all over your system.

Never assume! I assumed those searches had been done. Certainly just searching for as tBm describes cleared out an old Norton for me without any need for registry work.
