I think he represents nature. Nature isn't evil, it just is. Humans happen to to be encroaching on it, attacking it, so it's the force that defends itself. As for the Pagans, I think they're ok in the Trickster's eyes, since they strive to live in harmony with nature. The same with many actual traditional religions

how do you know the trixter was just a good hippie who hated technology ? i mean i agree that he hated those who cut his trees and plants... but the trixter really attempted to kill all humans... not just the evil hammers...
and what is the relationship between trixter and the Builder... who really is the builder ? was he also "a god" ? or was THE real god ! was the builder walking on earth like the trixter ?
how exactly did the builder defeat the woodsylord `? and why did he need garett to steal the eye ... and what was the eye really for ?
and why does the trixter have a secret room with gigantic throne and stool and tables ?

The Builder and Trickster are actually aliens that have the same agenda: experimenting on humans using different belief systems. The Eye is Trickter's spaceship. You see, these aliens can easily change size (as seen in Constantine's big room). So after bringing destruction to the world, Trickter needed to shrink and escape using the Eye.
