Has anyone figured out how it works ive completed all the mages guild quest and now I am the arch mage they gave me this enchanted chest which clones items but I cant seem to get it to work I put narnroot inside and I wait a couple of days and it doesnt make them Is there something I am doing wrong?

Nirnroot is specifically excluded from being duplicated by the chest, all other ingredients should work fine. Nirnroot was one of my first tests when I got access to it on my first character.

The Nirnroot quest makes me mad. I wish I could delete it or make it go away. It's not like I even want the reward, stupid potion of stupid cave exploration or whatever. If I want to see in a dark cave I turn my gamma up, er, I mean, um, I cast my Spell of Sublime Gammafication. But everytime I see a Nirnroot I pick the damn thing. I get off my stupid horse, walk all the way over and pick the stupid thing then walk back to my stupid horse and get back on. When I'm near a lake or something I can't help but have a quick look for Nirnroot, even though I could care less about that stupid quest! I wouldn't mind if I picked the 10 and got on with my life, but NOOOO. Then he wants 20, then 30. Forget it! It's like Bethesda deliberately crafted an evil quest to trigger people's latent OCD. I wish for a mod that would remove every Nirnroot from existence so I know I never have to look for them again.
Oh, back to the thread topic. Love that chest. Didn't even try and waste it on Nirnroot I'm proud to say. I'm hoping it'll clone me up some more of this Painted Troll Fat I just got though.

Just went over the script. Human Skin, Human Heart, Ambrosia, Lichor, Painted Troll Fat and just about every other special/unique ingredient are missing from the allowed list.
The chest is only useful for the stuff that you can buy at every alchemist. And if you by accident put in more than one type of ingredient then both will disappear.
Edit:
To make the Nirnroot quest go away you can try either:
StopQuest MS39
Or
SetStage MS39 100

Kind of suspected Painted Troll Fat wouldn't work I guess. Thanks for the heads up.
The quest isn't the problem, the plants are. Even if the quest goes away I don't think I can resist scrounging around for the plants anyway! But maybe if I delete the quest i can resist. I'll try it.

It's (nirnroot) Oblivion's version of "Hidden Packages" from GTA.
BTW, is the painted Troll fat worth holding onto? I used them all up in Alchemy...

Iirc it's the only ingredient with both Restore Health and Restore Magicka, meaning you can make a RH/RM potion using 3 ingredients instead of 4. Main downside is the limited supply and the 2 weight.

Ahaha, I agree with everything you said RarRar. I do the exact same thing.
I really liked the painted world. I kept all the painted troll fat and five of the six bottles of Turpentine as a reminder. When I create a magic character, I'll go into the CS and build me a house in that world and have a special teleportation doo-dah to take me there.

I tried to give Painted Troll Fat to Malacanth (he wants troll fat, and it was all I had on hand).....no dice.

Except that you got something useful in return for collecting the packages. And some cash for each one you picked up.
