How exactly is the archive section working? Are threads continuously moved there after not being bumped for a certain period of time, or were just all the old threads moved to the archives at a certain point in time (and hence the archives now being completely static)?

I am fairly sure the archiving was a one-off event. If I recall correctly, all threads that had been inactive since Jan 2001 were archived in mid-2001 (only for the larger forums, of course). There has been no archiving since.

They're currently static, yeah. Probably could do with a new dump in a while, particularly in the high-traffic forums of CommChat and ThiefGen. Maybe ShockGen too, I dunno.
It's not an ongoing or automated thing, though, if that's what you're asking. Threads older than X don't get archived by the software, it's something we have to instigate.

This was done out of necessity when we were using UBB, the huge size of some of our forums were causing searches to literally cripple the server. We haven't had such a staggering need like this since, so that's why no more archiving has taken place (with the exception of moving closed forums to the archive section, ie: Everquest). :)

Yes thank you we are aware of them and they were not listed for a reason. :)
